Deloraine House
- Great Rift Valley,
Kenya
Deloraine House
Bush Home Hotel; Deloraine
House was built in 1920 by an early settler, Lord Francis
Scott, and is truly a unique place, with respect to
both the architecture and the history that it embodies.
The home of Tristan and Cindy Vorspruy, who have been
running riding safaris for many years around Kenya,
Deloraine House is the embodiment of the generous hospitality
and genuine personality found throughout East Africa.
Deloraine House meals in the main dining
room area a family affair with the same atmosphere as
if you were on a break in a Scottish lodge with a big
party of friends. Deloraine is not a wildlife destination
in itself, being more a taste of highland Kenya 'society'
life, but you can spend a day in the nearby Nakuru National
Park for your wildlife fix.
Deloraine
House
is Located in the Rift Valley, Nakuru
Nakuru
town itself is typical of many other medium sized Kenyan
towns; which is to say that it is messy, noisy, hectic
and full of Kamikaze drivers. Deloraine House is relatively
close to Nakuru hence the main attraction of this area
is Lake Nakuru which is virtually annexed to the town
and it quite incredible to see such diversity or wildlife
living right next door. Lake Nakuru is one of the smallest
Parks in Kenya, protecting a soda lake which in an important
feeding ground for both lesser and greater flamingoes.
Lake Nakuru is
full of birdlife including large numbers of pelicans
which you can see at close quarters as they make ungainly
landings in the water or bask in the sun. The other
animals that Lake Nakuru
National Park is well known for are primarily white
and black rhino and leopard. A full day in the Park
is enough to see pretty much everything (although leopard
is by no means guaranteed, they are much more easily
spotted here than elsewhere). Game viewing is good here
year round as the animals do not migrate.
