Shompole Lodge; Shompole Lodge is situated
on the side of the Nguruman escarpment, overlooking
the stunning expanse of the Great Rift Valley, Kenya
and is positioned ideally to make the most of both an
incredible view and the cool breeze. Shompole Lodge
is located in southern Kenya on the Tanzanian border
near soda Lakes Natron and Magadi. The Lodge is located
on the edge of the Nguruman Escarpment overlooking the
Great Rift Valley, Kenya. Shompole Lodge in the Great
Rift Valley, Kenya is 120km (74.5 miles) south of Nairobi
on a 35 000 acre Conservancy, surrounded by 140 000
acres of Shompole Group Ranch which provides a dispersal
area for wildlife and a buffer zone. The area of Shompole
Lodge in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya is home to many
species of animal and bird life and includes one of
the most ecologically diverse areas in Africa.
Shompole
Lodge is situated in an arid region in the Great Rift
Valley, Kenya. October and November tend to be the warmest
times of the year while April and May is usually the
wettest time. Because it tends to be warm during the
middle of the day, activities normally take place during
the mornings and evenings, while the middle of the day
is spent relaxing by the pool or in the shade of the
rooms. Shompole Lodge offers privacy, comfort and relaxation
in mind, each room consists of a cool-pool and informal
sitting areas, a bathroom with a view and a specially-designed
tent which includes vast windows and a high canopied
roof. Shompole Lodge consists of 6 stylishly minimalist
rooms, 4 doubles and 2 twin rooms, and 2 suites.
All
rooms at Shompole Lodge are en-suite with private cool-pool
and lounge. The rooms have an open-plan design to take
advantage of the breeze as it can become very hot in
this area. The main lounge and dining area consists
of a high thatch roof overlooking Mount Shompole and
the Rift Valley. Guests can take their meals in the
privacy of their tent, the main pool or in the bush.

House (2 Suites)
Little
Shompole/360 House consists of two private suites located
within a few minute's walk from the main Shompole Lodge.
Each suite has a lounge area, cool-pool and sun-deck.
Both rooms share a private mess and horizon pool that
overlooks the Lake Natron basin and the volcanic hills
of Northern Tanzania.

Shompole House
Shompole
House is the latest addition to the property, an ideal
retreat for a family or a group of friends to share
and enjoy. Built largely from local materials, the Shompole
House straddles the ridge above Shompole Lodge. It comprises
two bedrooms, en suite bathrooms, swimming pool, dining
area, waterfall shower, and outside bath. The master
bedroom is a spacious and open plan offering spectacular
views across lake Natron and the Loita hills stretching
to Oldonyo Lengai. A cascading waterfall feeds the two
swimming pools the larger of which has an infinity edge
from where you can appreciate the surroundings.

is home to a great deal of bird and animal life including
Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Hippo, Aardwolf, Civet, Bat-eared
Fox, Serval, regular sightings of Wild Dog, striped
and spotted Hyena, Eland, Zebra, Oryx and Giraffe among
others.

In
addition, guests can take the opportunity of mixing
and finding out more about the Masai people, visit the
local market and villages and take part in any festivities
or celebrations that might be taking place. Activities

to the preferences of the guests. Horse riding and Camel
riding are among the many exciting activities that are
planned for the future.

Shompole, guests will also have ample time to relax
and enjoy the facilities of the lodge itself while on
their safari in Kenya. Shompole is conveniently located
for many different itineraries including those that
visit Amboseli and the Masai Mara. You can enjoy a short
private charter flight (30 min's) from Nairobi, the
Mara or Amboseli or take a breath-taking drive from
the heights of Nairobi down the escarpment, across the
floor of the Great Rift Valley encountering Lake Magadi
which is about 4 hours driving from Nairobi.
Access
to Shompole Lodge
By
air: A short private
charter flight (30 minutes) from Nairobi, the Mara or
Amboseli. Shared charters are available 3 times a week.
By
road: A breath-taking drive from the heights
of Nairobi down the escarpment and across the floor
of the Great Rift Valley, Kenya, encountering Lake Magadi
and some of the most spectacular views (3½ hours).
Please note that a 4-wheel-drive vehicle is required
for the road beyond Magadi.
