Masai Mara Game Reserve

This is a fantastic 10-day Kenya road Safari beginning from Mombasa and ending in Nairobi.  Go in search of Kenya’s abundant wildlife in the classical African game parks of world-famous Masai Mara, Samburu National Reserve, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli and Tsavo East National Park.

The Safari kicks off from Mombasa and travels to Tsavo East National Park, located only 120 Km from Mombasa and is Kenya’s oldest national park. It is home to the largest Elephant herds.

We spend a day on wildlife viewing drives looking for the famous Tsavo lions and other species such as Giraffe, Zebra, Impala, Hartebeest, as well as Buffalo, Elephant, Leopards and  Rhino.

From Tsavo East, we move on to Amboseli National Park overlooked by Mt Kilimanjaro and spend two days on game drives to experience the abundant wildlife found there. Amboseli is known as one of the most popular parks in Kenya, particularly for up-close contact with the vast herds of elephants.

The park is also home to more than 50 other mammal species, including Lion and Cheetah, plus herds of Zebra, Wildebeest and their predators. Over 400 species of birds have been recorded here, amongst them Pelican, Flamingo, Ostrich and over 47 species of raptor.

From Amboseli, the tour continues to the Aberdare Mountain Range located in Kenya’s Central Highlands. After a stop for lunch at an upscale restaurant in Nairobi, the tour takes you to Aberdare National Park, a scenic and tropical park home to the Big 5, as well as some rare forest-dwelling game like the shy Bongo Antelope, Colobus Monkey, Golden Cat, Giant Forest Hog and Leopard.

Proceed by road to the next safari destination – Samburu National Reserve set alongside the Ewaso Nyiro River, Kenya’s biggest northern river, Samburu has the lion’s share of wildlife.

Besides big cats and African Wild Dogs, you’re likely to see some of the rare northern species such as Grevy’s Zebra, the Somali Ostrich, the Reticulated Giraffe, the long-necked Gerenuk, Guenther’s Dik-dik and the Beisa Oryx, known as the Samburu Special Six.

Travel to Lake Nakuru National Park which hosts over 400 different bird species, including the Great White Pelican, Grey-crested Helmet-shrike, African Spoonbill, Yellow-billed Stork and Long-crested Eagle. Lake Nakuru is sometimes visited by flocks of migratory pink flamingos – an amazing sight when the birds gather.

Lake Nakuru National Park is an important wildlife sanctuary for some of Africa’s endangered species, especially black and white Rhinos, and Rothschild Giraffes. The game reserve is also home to Lions, Waterbuck, Buffalo and Baboons, which we keep an eye out for on our game drive.

Then it’s back on the road, as we make our way to our next game-viewing destination in Kenya, the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. Explore the reserve on morning and afternoon game drives in search of Africa’s Big Five and the plethora of other wildlife inhabiting this vast Kenyan game reserve.

The Mara is home to an abundance of wildlife such as Cheetah, Masai Giraffe, Baboon, Warthog, bat-eared Fox, Grey Jackal, spotted Hyena, Topis, Impala, Hartebeest, Wildebeest, Zebras Hippos are also found in great numbers.

The ultimate action here is without a doubt the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July and August when millions of these grazers move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October.

Balloon trips are an outstanding way of seeing the savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These Masai Mara balloon trips can be arranged at extra cost.
