This 2-day Tanzania short Safari starts in the town of Arusha, gateway to the well-loved Northern Tanzanian Safari Circuit. The tour combines two Tanzania safari gems – Lake Manyara Park and Tarangire National Park both located in the Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit.

Our first game viewing destination is Lake Manyara National Park where we take a mid-morning game viewing drive and later pause for lunch. This scenic national park protects the north-western part of Lake Manyara, running along the base of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment.
Lake Manyara Park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons and big herds of elephants as well as some elusive leopards. Common wildlife sightings include hippos, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, impalas, monkeys, warthogs and wildebeest.
Lake Manyara Park offers excellent birding, hosting over 400 bird species and is known for its large flamingo flocks and other waterbirds that usually gather at the shallow lake during rainy seasons.
We spend the afternoon enjoying superb game viewing in Lake Manyara and in the late afternoon, leave the park, and spend the night at a camp/ lodge near the small village Mto wa Mbu. Accommodation options in Mto wa Mbu include Migombani Camp, Lake Manyara Kilimamoja, Fig Tree Lodge Camp, African Sunrise Lodge and Africa Safari Lake Manyara.
On day two, we depart from Mto wa Mbu village and admiring the scenic landscapes of Tanzania as we travel Tarangire National Park. This diverse game park is home to a large variety of wildlife and is considered one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in northern Tanzania.
The Tarangire River is the only permanent water source in the park, during the dry season (July to October), attracting numerous animals to its banks. Tarangire hosts one of the largest elephant populations in Tanzania and is dotted with baobab and acacia thorn trees.
The park is also home to various big cats including lions, leopards and cheetahs, as well as tree climbing pythons. Other wildlife inhabiting the game park include many giraffes, buffalos, zebras and various antelope species such as gazelles. We also keep an eye out for various birds on our game drives, as Tarangire is also home to over 100 bird species.
In the late afternoon you will return to Arusha, bringing the 2-day Tanzania short wildlife exploration to a close.

Safari Itinerary in Detail
Day 1: Arusha – Drive to Lake Manyara National Park
0800 Hours: After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha we meet our professional tour guide/ driver who will deliver a short safari info briefing, after which, we travel to the Lake Manyara National Park. The drive from Arusha to Lake Manyara takes about 2 ½ hours and we shall cover about 130 kilometers.
1100 Hours: We arrive at the park and proceed on a game drive. The diverse habitats of Lake Manyara National Park range from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. The park is home to a large concentration of elephants, hippos, zebras, giraffes, baboons, gazelles, and tree-climbing lions.
1300 Hours: We enjoy our packed lunch boxes at one of the picnic sites. Later proceed for another game drive. Among the bird population, flamingos are the most seen, but others include pelicans, Egyptian geese, cormorants, storks, Vulture, Eagles, swifts, and swallows, etc.
1800 Hours: In the late afternoon you leave the national park, and will spend the night at a camp/ lodge near the small village Mto wa Mbu.
Overnight Accommodation: Migombani Camp, Lake Manyara Kilimamoja or African Sunrise Lodge
Day 2: Lake Manyara/ Mto wa Mbu – Drive to Tarangire National Park – Drive to Arusha
0800 Hours: Depart after breakfast at your hotel in Mto wa Mbu village for Tarangire National Park. The driving time is approximately 2 hours. (Driving Distance 150 km)
1130 Hours: Upon arrival at the park, we proceed for a mid-morning game viewing safari in the park. Tarangire River and the swamps in the park act as a magnet for wild animals, during Tanzania’s dry season.
The Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. The park is also home to three rare species of animals – the Greater Kudu, the Fringed-eared Oryx, as well as a few Ashy Starlings.
1300 Hours: Lunch will be served at the Lodge/ camp followed by some rest time.
1500 Hours: Enjoy another game drive in the park. Look for Tree-climbing Pythons, Elephants in large herds of close to 600, Wildebeests, Zebras, Elands, Hartebeests, Buffaloes, Oryx, etc. The park is home to 550 bird species.
1830 Hours: In the late afternoon you will return to Arusha with many impressions of your safari.
