2 Days 1 Night Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park Safari in Rwanda is a very popular Safari.  This overnight tour is for guests who do not have enough time for a longer Safari and would like to enjoy a gorilla trekking experience.

Our 2 Days 1 Night Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park Safari takes you to the home of the Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda, Volcanoes national park. You get to track the gorilla once, and then fly out on the second day after tracking.

This is the best adventure for business visitors to Rwanda or combining short tour visiting Gorillas only found in many families in Rwanda Volcanoes National Park!

Volcanoes National Park is located in a small village called Musanze previously well-known as Ruhengeri. The drive from Kigali or from the airport to Volcanoes national park takes only 2 hours.

The main activities in the park include gorilla trekking, Hiking Karisimbi volcano (3,800 m), one day Mount Bisoke volcano hike, visiting Dian Fossey and visiting the twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera.

Our 2-day safari starts and ends in Kigali – Rwanda. One gorilla permit for Parc Nationale des Volcanoes is included in the cost.

Having a chance to see some of the last remaining 880 mountain gorillas in the world is a wonderful experience. It offers you an opportunity to track gorillas in Parc Nationale des Volcanoes in Rwanda.

Gorilla Trekking Tips
* Photography is permitted, although you must not use flash
* Warm clothing is advised especially the evenings and morning are chilly
* Porters are available to help you carry your day pack for a small charge
* Mountain gorillas live at high altitude and this may cause difficulties for some visitors. You should pace yourself, walk slowly and drink
plenty of water
* Bring water along on your trek, eating, drinking and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden – designated time and place will be
communicated by your ranger guide

Safari Itinerary in Summary

Day 1: Rwanda Arrival – Drive to Volcanoes National Park

On arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be picked up and drive straight to the home of the Gorillas, Volcanoes national park. It is located in the North-western part of Rwanda in the Virunga ranges.

The gorillas found this a permanent home because of the vegetation which is good for them and provides plenty of food. The vegetation is Bamboo and rainforest. Not only have the mountain gorillas found this a permanent home, but also other animals like golden monkeys, chimpanzees enjoy living there.

The Zoologist Dian Fossey had a good stay in this park while relating with the gorillas before she was murdered. Arrive in time for lunch, enjoy the meal, later relax or visit the twin lakes or other places of interest surrounding the park.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking, Parc National des Volcans – Drive to Kigali

Have breakfast and go to Volcanoes Park Headquarters Kinigi for a briefing about the gorilla trekking encounter commencing at 8 am local time. The earlier arrival allows you to explore the traditional performances of the local Rwandese demonstrating their culture and also a hot cup of coffee/ tea is available.

The time approaches and the performances stop, the gorilla families are allocated and then briefing follows in your respective groups.  You attend to a briefing about the gorilla trekking conduct after being allocated the respective gorilla family to track.

From briefing, you connect to the trailhead to embark on the hiking encounter traversing the impressive mountainous landscapes before coming across the gorillas. The one hour with mountain gorillas is rewarding as you see them forage, socialize and the young ones playing.

You have the opportunity to take as many photos as you can to keep a memory of your lifetime encounter with the gorillas. Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer back to Kigali to mark the end of the Rwanda gorilla tour.

* A visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village located in Musanze district on the outskirts of the Volcanoes National Park can also be included on the same day. Here Visitors enjoy the cultural aspects of the Banyarwanda people. Some of the activities include farming activities, mock hunting, banana beer making, millet grinding on a flat shaped stone, cattle raring, potatoes growing and the traditional food preparation
