2 Days 1 Night Nyungwe National Park Rwanda Safari is a short overnight trip to Nyungwe Forest National Park located in the southwestern part of Rwanda, about 5 hours drive from Kigali capital. The park is 225 km from Kigali, 90 km from Butare and 54 km from Cyangugu.

Nyungwe National Park is home to habituated chimpanzees and 12 other primates species (including a 400-strong troop of habituated Ruwenzori Black & White Colobus).

Nyungwe is also a birder’s paradise with over 300 species, including 16 endemics, and is home to 75 different species of mammal. During our 2 days in Nyungwe National Park, we enjoy the Ngyungwe forest canopy walk and chimpanzee tracking.

Things to do and see in Nyungwe Forest National Park include Hiking in Nyungwe Forest, Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe Forest, Grey Cheeked Mangabey and Ruwenzori Colobus Monkey Tracking, Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk and Hike and Nyungwe Forest Birding among others.

Chimpanzee Tracking: One of the highlights of any trip to Rwanda is the opportunity to get up close and personal with these apes in their natural environment. Nyungwe actually provides a haven to 25% of all African primate species, and you are sure to come across at least one troop of colobus monkeys during your stay in the forest

Forest Canopy Walk: Enjoy East Africa’s only canopy walk. This walk runs along a ridge before climbing a 50m-high platform and a suspended walkway above a steep and deep valley stretching across the massive forest and lasts about 1½ hours. It takes you through some beautiful foliage and animal species. You have a chance to spot blue monkeys and unique birds that dwell in the upper levels of the forest

Day 1: Travel from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park

0630 Hours: you will meet with your driver/ guide in the morning for a more briefing of the 2 days tour to Nyungwe Forest National Park, the journey is expected to take us 5 hours of drive time and check in at the Uwinka Visitors center in Nyungwe Forest.

1530 Hours: We shall have a registration and briefing from the Park forest guide, pick our walking/ hiking sticks and start the days canopy walk in the rain forest. The days adventure nature and canopy walk is likely to take us about 2 hours.

The canopy walk is 160 meters divided in 3 sections. Great view from the center point as you easily spot many monkeys, birds and butterflies.

Return later and check into our accommodations.

Day 2: Morning Chimpanzee Tracking & Travel back to Kigali

After our breakfast, we shall head for our morning chimpanzee tracking in the forest, the tracking is expected to last between 1-2 hours. Waking up early helps to trace chimpanzee from the calls before they move further in the forest to forage.

After the chimpanzee tracking, we shall have some refreshments and get on our journey back to Kigali.
