One of our best Tanzania short tours, this 2-day safari combines one of Tanzania’s top northern Game Parks – Tarangire National Park with Arusha National Park at a fantastic price!
This Tanzania short overnight safari begins in Arusha, located at the foot of Mount Meru. After pick up from your hotel, we travel southwest to Tarangire National Park, our first safari destination on the Northern Tanzania Circuit. The Park lies 118 km (75 miles) from Arusha, along the Great North Road highway.
This diverse Tanzanian park covers 2600 km² of diverse habitats, ranging from grassy savannahs and seasonal marshlands to woodlands and giant old baobab trees.
Tarangire Park is one of East Africa’s best places to see elephants up close, hosting about 4000 Elephants. Wildlife includes Maasai Giraffes, Buffalos, Lions, Leopards, Baboons and a variety of Antelopes and Gazelle species.
After lunch we explore top areas for sighting wildlife, visiting the best viewpoints to get fantastic photos and enjoy the scenic landscapes, teeming with animals. Tarangire River is the only permanent water source in the park, during the dry season (July to October), attracting numerous animals to its banks.
Herds of Buffalo and Wildebeests, as well as Elephants, are frequently sighted along the river. We also keep an eye out for various birds on our game drives, as Tarangire is also home to over 100 bird species.
We spend a night at one of the beautifully lodge/ camp in the park. Tarangire accommodation options include Tarangire Sopa Lodge, Little Oliver’s Camp, Sanctuary Swala Camp, Tarangire Osupuko Lodge, Tarangire River Camp and Tarangire Safari Lodge.
The following morning, we transfer from Tarangire National Park to Arusha National Park (1 hour & 30 minutes’ drive). Explore the far reaches of the park on a game drive, taking in some of the lovely views and keeping an eye out for wildlife.
Arusha National Park is also home to the world’s largest population of Giraffes, making it a great place to visit for fans of these long-necked, beautiful animals. Expect to see water Bucks, cape Buffalo, Elephants, blue Monkeys, black and white Colobus Monkeys, Turacos, Trogons, and even the occasional Lion or Leopard in the right conditions.
If time allows you explore Momela Lakes in the park which support a rich selection of resident and migrant birds such as flamingos and many water birds.
In the late afternoon we travel back to Arusha bringing our magnificent Tanzania short overnight Safari to a close.

Safari Itinerary in Detail
Day 1: Arusha Town – Drive to Tarangire National Park
0800 Hours: Depart after breakfast at your hotel in Arusha for Tarangire National Park. The driving time is approximately 2 Hours (Distance: 120 kilometers).
1100 Hours: Upon arrival at the park we proceed for a mid-morning game viewing safari in the park. Tarangire River and the swamps in the park act as a magnet for wild animals, during Tanzania’s dry season.
The Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. The park is also home to three rare species of animals – the Greater Kudu, the Fringed-eared Oryx, as well as a few Ashy Starlings.
1300 Hours: Lunch will be served at the Lodge/ camp followed by some rest time.
1500 Hours: Enjoy another game drive in the park. Look for Tree-climbing Pythons, Elephants in large herds of close to 600, Wildebeests, Zebras, Elands, Hartebeests, Buffaloes, Oryx, etc. The park is home to 550 bird species.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park – Drive to Arusha National Park + Game Drive – Drive to Arusha Town
0700 Hours: After an early breakfast we transfer from Tarangire National Park to Arusha National Park.
0900 Hours: Once in Arusha National Park, you will participate in a half-day walking safari and a half-day game drive.
Arusha national park lies about 45 kilometers East of Arusha town. It is therefore the closest national park to the safari capital of Tanzania.
This park is home to Mt Meru, Tanzania’s “other mountain” standing at 4565m, Ngurdoto Crater, and the Momella Lakes.
Despite its relatively small size, this park has a lot to offer such as Colobus monkeys, flamingos, elephants, giraffes, buffalos, plus a variety of bird and plant species.
You will be accompanied by an armed ranger for the walk, who will guide you through the forest up to the waterfall and the point for viewing the black and white colobus monkeys.
During the game drive, you will see the 7 Lakes of Momella and the Ngurduto Crater.
1700 Hours: You will return to Arusha.
