3 Day Kenya Fly-in Safari Ndongoro Cabin Retreat

3-Day Kenya Fly-in Safari Ragati Cabin Retreat takes you off-the-beaten-track destination.. to a charming, spacious, and very comfortable rustic-chic log cabin hidden away in the untouched forests of Mount Kenya. The Ndongoro Log Cabin is located at the centre of the Ragati Conservancy, 12,000 acres of unspoiled mountain and forest wilderness on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. A stay at Ndongoro is a wonderfully private and original away-from-it-all escape and the conservancy also offers some of the best trout fishing in East Africa. Ragati is easily reached by car and is less than three hour’s drive from Nairobi and 1.5 hours from Nanyuki.  From Nairobi, travel via Thika and Karatina on the main A2 highway. Nairobi to Karatina should take 2 hours, and from Karatina to the cabin another 1 hour.

3 Day Kenya Fly-in Safari Ndongoro Cabin Retreat

3-Day Kenya Fly-in Safari Ndongoro Log Cabin Retreat: enjoy one of the best fishing and walking experiences that Kenya has to offer on our 3-day holiday at Ndongoro Log Cabin Retreat located on the lower slopes of Mount Kenya (Ragati Conservancy).

Ragati Conservancy lies on the Southern slopes of Mt. Kenya and the ecosystem includes the Ragati river and its tributaries and is home to an abundance of wildlife; elephant, buffalo, leopard as well as the rare mountain bongo, crowned eagle and African clawless otter. Home also to some amazing birdlife.

The river is an ideal habitat for rainbow trout, providing a fantastic opportunity to fish in crystal-clear mountain tributaries running through pristine forests. Accommodation at the Ndongoro Log Cabin Retreat at Ragati is simple and rustic, yet charming and comfortable.

It accommodates up to ten guests in five comfortable bedrooms – 3 doubles, 1 twin and 1 bunk. The bathroom facilities have hot and cold running water, and a large lounge area with an open fireplace to keep the cabin warm in cooler months.

There is no electricity, so lighting is by a solar lamp and food is kept in cool boxes rather than a fridge. The cabins are normally self-catering, but we will provide all of the food and house drinks needed for you to be able to cook yourself delicious meals during your stay.

With no electricity, WI-FI or cell phone signal, a stay at the cabin offers guests a rare opportunity to unplug and enjoy a relaxing and uninterrupted stay amid untouched natural surroundings.

While you’ll be doing all of the cooking, the staff are on hand to make fires in the cabin and do washing up. All fishing equipment is supplied – including rods, reels, lines, flies and nets – and there is a fully-trained team of ghillies (fishing guides) on hand to ensure an amazing fishing experience.

The team are there to provide expert advice and instruction, and novice fishermen, women and children are just as welcome as more experienced anglers. Children will also enjoy fishing for crabs and crayfish.

Gumboots, waterproofs and long trousers are recommended due to the forest terrain and stinging nettles. Fishing rods are available for hire but are limited. We recommend that serious fishermen bring their own gear.

Mammals found in Ragati also include Leopard, Giant Forest Hog, African Elephant, Buffalo, African Clawless Otter, Spotted Hyena, Sykes and Colobus Monkeys, Bushbuck, Waterbuck and the Black-fronted Duiker. Other notables include the Mt Kenya Mole-Shrew, Mt Kenya Mole-rat, Mt Kenya Thicket Rat and East African Tree Hyrax.

The Montane forest has over 200 bird species including the Crowned Eagle, Ayres’s Hawk Eagle, African Long-eared Owl, Forest Guinea Fowl, Black and White Casqued Hornbill, Hartlaub’s Turaco and Tacazze Sunbird.
