Saadani National Park

This 3-day Southern Tanzania Safari adventure begins and ends in Dar es Salaam and travels to Saadani National Park, one of Tanzania’s lesser-known southern game park in a 4×4 safari vehicle.

Leaving the big city behind, we drive to Saadani National Park located just 2 hours north of Dar es Salaam and on the coast of Tanga, an ideal place to combine relaxation on the beach and wildlife watching.

Located in the center of the historic triangle of Bagamoyo, Pangani, and Zanzibar, Saadani National Park covers 1100 km².  It is the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania bordering the sea. The afternoon is spent exploring Saadani in our 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, spotting wildlife and taking photographs.

The park contains many indigenous species including Liechtenstein’s Hartebeest and the rare Roosevelt sable. The park also boasts the rich Wami River perfect for boat trips and the sighting of Hippos, Crocodiles, and marine birds.

After an exciting day of wildlife viewing in Saadani, we return to our lodge watching the sunset over the African bush. Accommodation options in Saadani include Sanctuary Saadani Safari LodgeTent With a ViewThe Roof of Saadani, Safari Mashariki Lodge, Kisampa Camp, Oceanic Bay Hotel and Resort.

On day two we get up bright and early for a full day of game viewing in Saadani National Park. We take a take a 2-hour boat cruise on the Wami River, which flows through the southern part of the Park.

The river is widely known by birders for its spectacular variety of birds, including Flamingos and Pelicans at the river mouth. Lazy Hippos and Crocodiles keep cool in the water or sleep on the sandbanks. Large monitor Lizards move through the undergrowth, and black and white Colobus Monkeys perform acrobatics in the trees overhead.

On the afternoon game drive we spot Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Giraffe, Buffalo, Warthog, Waterbuck, Hartebeest, Wildebeest, Kudu, Eland, Sable Antelope, Baboon and Monkeys.

On day 3, we wake up in the heart of the untamed African bush and tuck into a hearty breakfast. Then, we set off on our final game drive in Saadani National Park as we exit the park and hit the road, returning to coastal Dar es Salaam where our African adventure started.
