Kilimanjaro short Treks/ Hikes

This  4-day Kilimanjaro Hike follows the Marangu Route for three nights on the mountain before returning to Moshi/ Arusha. You will NOT reach the summit. The Marangu Route is also known as the “Coca Cola” or “tourist” route. It is the easiest and shortest route to the summit.

Climbing Kilimanjaro is not on everyone’s wish list. Some people just wanted to get a chance to experience this majestic mountain without reaching Uhuru Peak and having to go through the hard slog of getting to the summit.

Some may not have the time, or the money to spend on longer treks and if you are one of these people, then our short 4-day Kilimanjaro trek is perfect for you. These short climbing tour is offered on a private basis so you can start on any day that suits you. You could also combine the hike with a Tanzania safari to give you the best of both worlds.

Our 4-day short trek on Kilimanjaro uses the Marangu route as this is the only route where short treks are allowed and also the only route with the comforts of sleeping huts at every campsite (with solar lights and comfortable beds). The huts are communal, and the bunks have a sponge mattress and pillow.

There are 60 beds at Mandara and 120 beds at Horombo hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts. There are various beverages on sale along the Marangu Route to quench the thirst of climbing hikers.

Bottled water, soft drinks, and even beer are usually available at the huts. Meals are taken in shared dining huts where several climbing groups from various countries across the globe get to meet up. These social mealtimes on the Marangu route are fun and lively occasions.

This 4-day Kilimanjaro Hike begins and ends in Arusha and starts with a transfer to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1840m). Upon arrival at the Kilimanjaro National Park, we complete the necessary paperwork before starting our hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro.

After a 4-hour walk, we reach our first overnight stop, the Mandara Hut (2670m). Here we rest before visiting Maundi Crater with our mountain guide. From the crater, we enjoy wonderful views of the Kenyan interior, before returning to Mandara Hut for dinner and our overnight stay.

On day two, you hike for about 4 – 6 hours to reach the Horombo Hut, at an altitude of 3700m. We will have dinner and stay overnight at Horombo Hut, admiring the spectacular views over Mawenzi, Kibo, and the vast plains of Masai steppe.

On Day three we trek for about 4 – 5 hours to reach the Zebra Rocks (3980m), a rock formation named after the distinctive black and white stripes on the rocks. Returning to Horombo Hut we enjoy a warm lunch prepared by our mountain team.

The afternoon is free for you to relax. On this day you could also take an optional hike by Mawenzi Peak.  We have dinner in the evening and spend another night at Horombo Hut.

On day four we get magnificent views of the summit of Kilimanjaro in the sunrise, then a steady descent takes us down through moorland to the Mandara Hut. Continue descending through a lush forest path to the National Park gate at Marangu and transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha. This brings our memorable 4 days Kilimanjaro Hike via Marangu Route to a close.
