Lake Mburo National Park

This 4 day Uganda Safari holiday combines Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with a safari in Lake Mburo, the smallest of Uganda’s savanna National Parks located close to both Kampala and Entebbe. This Uganda wildlife safari & gorilla trekking tour departs from Kampala or Entebbe on day one.

The drive takes us southwest and along the way we visit local markets including a drum market. When we reach the Equator we stop to take photos and test which way water drains from a bath here. We continue our journey to Lake Mburo arriving in time for lunch.

In the afternoon we take a boat trip to Lake Mburo, looking for crocodiles, hippo,s, etc and water birds such as pelicans, herons, fish eagles, and the rare Shoebill stork. During your safari game drive in Lake Mburo expect to see zebra, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, eland, buffaloes, impalas, roam antelope, leopard, hyena, bushbuck, reedbuck, and klipspringer.

Day two begins with a game drive in Lake Mburo National Park. Your guides point out the array of animals and plants found in this diverse Ugandan game reserve as you explore. Over 350 bird species have also been recorded in this compact national park.

Then we leave the national park and head south to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Our route takes us through landscapes of rolling hills scattered with banana plantations and herds of striking long-horned Ankole cattle.

In the afternoon the roads through the mountain become rough and passing mist-shrouded villages we reach our lodge/ camp in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This evening we prepare for our mountain gorilla trek the following day.

On day three you’ll head into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest on a guided Mountain Gorilla Trekking Tour. We set off in smaller groups with local guides, trekking into the forest to find a family of African Mountain Gorillas and spend some time with them in the wild. The entire experience may take anything from 2 to 8 hours.

Trekking for these highly endangered mountain gorillas is a once-in-a-lifetime experience – truly one of the most unique and rare wildlife encounters on earth! Other primates that can be found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in addition to the mountain Gorillas include a red-tailed and blue monkey, L’Hoest’s, chimpanzee, black and white colobus, and baboons.

In the evening, have a cultural walk and interact with the local people. Participate in captivating traditional performances presented by Women’s groups or orphan children groups.

Day four of our 4 Day Uganda Safari Lake Mburo & Bwindi Forest Gorilla Trekking ends after a transfer to Kampala. Alternatively, a transfer to Entebbe can be arranged for later in the day.
