6 Days Climbing Mount Kenya Sirimon Naro Moru Route; Sirimon route is considered by many to represent Mount Kenya one of the easiest route to reach Point Lenana.

The route is on dry side of the mountain and affords walks through old growth forest on lower slopes and giant heather, Alpine flowers and Lobelia in higher elevations.

Naro-moru route also considered one of the quickest route to descend. Mount Kenya – Africa’s second highest mountain – offers a choice of exciting treks and climbs through its varied scenery of volcanic ridges, deep valleys and rugged landscape.

To climb Mount Kenya is an experience of a lifetime, highly recommended to the adventurous traveler willing to forego some of life’s luxuries for a few days. Point Lenana (4985m) can be achieved by any physically fit person and no climbing experience is necessary.

Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Nairobi to Nanyuki Town

0800 Hours: After breakfast transfer to Nanyuki by road. Upon arrival at your hotel/ Lodge check-in and lunch follows. Later you have the option of visiting Sweetwaters Game Reserve for a game drive, enjoy a complimentary tour of the Equator etc.

There are other attraction in this town like P.C.E.A Nanyuki Spinners and Weavers (a women self-help project) where they produce wall mats, scurf’s, tablemats etc. using wool products.

Day 2: Nanyuki – Sirimon Gate (2650 Meters) – Old Moses Hut (3300 Meters)

After breakfast at the lodge, depart Nanyuki together with mountain crews to Sirimon gate where you will start your hiking to Mt. Kenya. The trekking distance from Sirimon gate to Old Moses camp is 9 kilometers and takes about 3 to 4 hours.

As you hike to Old Moses Camp (Judmeier), you will go through a beautiful forest with East African Pencil Cedar trees, Poducarpus trees and the giant Hygenia trees. From Judmeier camp you can see the summits of Batian and Nelion peaks.

Day 3: Old Moses (Judmaier) camp to Shiptons camp

0600 Hours: Wake up and have breakfast before you depart for Shiptons camp. This is about a 6 to 8 hour hike (14 km a journey) crossing Liki and Mackinders valleys, there is a great view of Tereri and Sendeo peaks.

And also a great view of Nanyuki town and beautiful terrain. Shipton’s camp has also an excellent setting with the north faces of Nelion peak and Batian peak. Shiptons camp is located at the base of the highest peaks in Mt Kenya.

Day 4: Shipton Camp

0830 Hours: After breakfast in Shipton’s camp proceed with the trail that leads to kami hut below the north face of Batian. Continuing west – southwest the trails climbs up switchbacks in the fine snow before reaching Hausberg col at 4590m.

We will descend into the upper Hausberg valley and rest at the aptly named oblong and Hausberg tarns. Ascending to the crest of a ridge known as Arthur’s seat we see the trail winding along a beautiful series of rock ledges. We will descend to shipton’s camp for the night

Day 5: Shiptons Hut – Lenana Summit (4985 Meters) – Met Station Campsite

Wake up very early in the morning exactly at 0200 Hours to prepare yourself and the take pre breakfast at 0230 Hours. Leave Shiptons at 1500 Hours to attempt the summit (a journey that takes 3 ½ hours to reach the summit).

Point Lenana is the 3rd highest peak on Mount Kenya and the only one that can be reached by trekking. On a clear sky day you can see Mount Kilimanjaro on southern side and Indian Ocean shining as the sun is rising.

After enjoying the summit, descend down back to Mackinder’s camp for a full breakfast. Here the guide will give you an hour to relax before you proceed to Met station campsite for lunch, Dinner and overnight.


Day 6: Met Station Campsite – Nairobi

0730 Hours: After breakfast, you will walk down to Naro moru gate where you will meet a transfer vehicle to Naro Moru town.

If you are too exhausted, we organize for you a vehicle (at an extra cost) to drive you down from Met station camp to Naromoru town where you will have a short break to say Kwaheri (good bye) to your potters and cook.

Drive back to Nairobi where your tour ends.
