Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Kampala – Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

Breakfast at your hotel in Kampala/ Entebbe, and then depart for Murchison Falls National Park. The drive takes about 5 hours from Kampala with lunch en-route in Masindi town.

After lunch, we proceed to the park and begin our game drive as we drive to the top of the falls. The park is bisected by the mighty Nile River, and home to some truly spectacular sights.

As the river squeezes through a gap in a cleft of the rock, it sets off sudden, violent explosions of white water, resulting in the dramatic Murchison Falls and the most powerful natural water flow on earth.

The river is rich in wildlife, including hippo and some of Africa’s largest crocodile, but the rare shoebill stalk truly demands one’s attention. These tall birds are solitary and reserved, with large, strong beaks capable of crushing small crocodiles.

After a visit to the top of the falls and we proceed to our accommodations. (Optional activity: Stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary).

Day 2: Murchison Falls National Park (Game Drive & Launch Cruise on Victoria Nile)

Breakfast at the lodge/ camp and get ready for a half-day game drive along the northern banks of the Nile, providing the chance to see elephant, buffalo, bushbuck, giraffe, lion, hartebeests, Uganda knobs and an impressive variety of birds.

Return to camp for lunch and some relaxation, before embarking on a Nile cruise which promises some exhilarating encounters with the local wildlife. The 2-hour launch cruise up to the mighty Murchison Fall will reveal plenty of wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, water birds along the river banks enabling an excellent birding safari.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Murchison Falls – Drive to Kibale Forest National Park

Early in the morning have breakfast followed by a road transfer to Kibale Forest National Park. The park is known to harbour the largest number of primates. The drive will take you to Fort Portal that lies amidst the great Mountains of the Moon.

En-route, you will visit the amber Ganyinamwiru stalagmites and waterfalls site in Fort Portal and the crater lakes.

You will then be transferred to your accommodations.

Day 4: Kibale Forest National Park Chimpanzee Tracking/ Nature Walk (Bigodi Swamp)

Begin the day with breakfast and go for briefing and start chimpanzee trekking. Kibale Forest National Park is one of the best safari destinations in Africa for chimpanzee tracking.

Kibale is 795 square km National Park contains one of the most beautiful and with the most varying tracts of tropical forest in the whole of Uganda. This is the place to a number of forest wildlife, most especially 13 species of primate coupled with chimpanzees.

After trekking, you will have lunch and then visit Bigodi wetland where you will experience a lot of birdlife, primates and unspoilt nature! The walk will be guided providing information both on flora and fauna.

Day 5: Kibale Forest – Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast say goodbye to the Kibale Forest as you make your way south through rich farmland, travelling on the slopes of the Ruwenzori Mountains – one of Africa’s largest mountain ranges. Cross the equator before reaching the renowned Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After enjoying lunch at your new accommodations, set off on a game drive in Uganda’s prime game viewing region and be on the lookout for elephant and buffalo. As these are the breeding grounds of the Uganda knob, you will be sure to see them grazing in the grass.

Continue your game viewing in the park as you explore the network of tracks in search of the animals you have not yet seen. In the evening, embark on a cruise of the Kazinga Channel, home to the largest concentration of hippo.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park (Game Drive/ Katwe Salt Mines)

Enjoy early breakfast and then go for a game drive in the Kasenyi sector to be rewarded with game-like Lions, elephants, buffaloes, side stripped jackals, colobus monkeys, bushbucks, bushpigs, warthogs Uganda Kobs and others.

In the afternoon you will go visit the Katwe salt mines to have a glimpse of the traditional salt mining methods.
