4 Nights Ruaha National Park | 4 Nights Selous Game Reserve

This 9 Day Tanzania Fly-in Safari Ruaha & Selous itinerary combines two of Africa’s largest game reserve, Selous, and the biggest national park, Ruaha, which are the ‘best-kept safari secrets’ of Tanzania. These destinations offer off-the-beaten-track adventures, as well as luxury and excellent hospitality at beautiful lodges and tented camps.

In just nine days fly from Dar es Salaam to Ruaha then Selous and back to Dar es Salaam to experience crowd-free wildlife viewing in these remote and amazingly wild African parks.

Embark on 4×4 game drives in search of big cats, elephants and buffalos in Ruaha National Park and wild dogs, lions and wildebeest of Selous Game Reserve, along with an exceptional diversity of other wild animals, birds and plants inhabiting these unspoilt wilderness areas.

Begin with a flight from the metropolis of Dar es Salaam to the wild Ruaha National Park. The next few days are dedicated to wildlife viewing in Ruaha, Tanzania’s best-kept safari secret.

The game viewing program is flexible allowing you to choose the timing and type of safari activities that suit you best. Pick between full-day or half-day game drives and picnic lunches in the bush or hot lunches back at camp. Aside from the incredible buffalo herds and the huge lion prides there is a high possibility of seeing serval, aardwolf and the lesser kudu.

Stay for 4 nights at the Ikuka Safari Camp situated on top of an incredible rocky escarpment with the best views of Ruaha National Park. Ikuka offers walking safaris, game drives and fly camping. Optional activities available at an extra cost include walking safaris in Ruaha, night game drives and even hot-air balloon safaris!

Next, we fly to Selous Game Reserve explore the reserve on 4×4 game drives in an open-sided safari vehicle. Common wildlife sightings here include hippos, endangered wild dogs, wildebeest and lions, along with plenty of plains game such as zebras, giraffes and a variety of antelopes.

Your home in Selous is at Beho Beho Safari camp, an intimate wilderness retreat that offers its guests exceptional wildlife encounters through a variety of safari adventures. Explore Selous on foot, by boat or by open-sided vehicle – the Selous is home to some of Africa’s largest big game populations and has all the big cats and major predators.

After 4 nights in Selous, we fly back to Dar es Salaam where our private Southern Tanzania Safari adventure comes to a close. Day 1,2,3 &4: Dar es Salaam International Airport – Fly to Ruaha National Park

This morning we transfer you to Dar es Salaam International Airport for your flight to Ruaha National Park, an hour and a half’s flight away. You’ll be met by a guide from Ikuka Safari Camp and enjoy your first game drive in Ruaha before arriving at the camp in time for lunch.

Ikuka is a luxury camp opened in late 2016 – and it certainly has the ‘wow’ factor. Its beautiful rooms are in an elevated position with amazing panoramic vistas over the stunning terrain below. The view from the infinity swimming pool has to be one of the best in Africa!

Four full days at Ikuka mean you can really make the most of being in this special place.  Enjoy morning and evening game drives in the lovely landscape, take a guided bush walk or go out with binoculars and a bird guide and see how many of the 500+ species you can spot in this birder’s paradise.

The wildlife is fantastic here. The Mwagusi area is outstanding for big cats, and Ruaha also has particularly strong numbers of elephants and good populations of wild dogs.  Breakfast can be taken in the camp or out in the bush, while lunch and dinner are at Ikuka.

Day 5, 6, 7 & 8: Ruaha National Park – Fly to Selous Game Reserve

Depart on a short morning game drive to the airstrip to fly to the Selous Game Reserve. Your guide from Beho Beho Safari Camp will meet you at the airstrip and game-drive you the short distance to the camp, giving an introduction to this beautiful reserve and its wildlife on the way.

Settle into your spacious Banda and after lunch there’s time to relax by the pool before you set off on your afternoon safari activity. A boat safari is a lovely relaxed introduction to the Selous, watching wildlife come to the water’s edge to drink, and stopping for sundowners on a sandbank.

Spend four full days in Selous exploring Africa’s largest protected wildlife area by 4×4 safari vehicle, on foot and by boat as you traverse through grass plains, flourishing wetlands, swamps and dense forest.

Witness the congregation of game along the banks of the Rufiji River, with its lagoons, sand banks and lakes. Birding enthusiasts will delight in the variety of birds species found along the river’s banks. Expect attention-to-detail service, breathtaking landscapes and exceptional accommodation.

Day 9: Selous Game Reserve – Fly to Dar es Salaam (20 Minutes)

After breakfast you will be driven back to Beho Beho airstrip Airport for your flight to Dar es Salaam, only 20 minutes away, where you can connect to your international flight home.
