Jinja 1 Day Trip - Sightseeing City Tour

Jinja Sightseeing 1 Day Trip Safari is a full-day excursion from Kampala to Jinja town and its environs. Jinja town is located 80 km from Kampala City and the journey by road takes about 1½ hours.  After breakfast, our Jinja Sightseeing 1-day trip safari departs Kampala and drives along Kampala – Jinja road, one of the busiest roads in Uganda, you will pass through Lugazi – a popular sugar cane town.

Our first stop will be at Ssezibwa Falls located in the Mukono district, about 37 km from Kampala. The falls are about seven meters high and are an excellent and convenient place for bird lovers, a cultural site with folk stories and traditional healers, and the waterfalls with a story.  A resident tour guide will lead you to the different sites and share legends surrounding the river etc. This stopover will also give you a glimpse into the traditional beliefs of the Buganda kingdom and great pictures of the scenery and landscape.

A few km from the falls we get to Mabira Forest. Mabira Forest Reserve is one of Uganda’s largest surviving Natural Forests covering an area of 306 square kilometers. A local guide will lead you through the forest. On the trail, you will learn about the different medicinal trees and how people lived and survived in the forest. You will encounter different bird species, beautiful butterflies, and red-tailed monkeys jumping from one tree to another, and hopefully, you will see the Uganda Mangabeys on a good day.

Animals seen here include bush pigs, blue duikers, red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and leopards (very rare). After the Mabira Forest nature walks, we proceed to Jinja town located 26 km from Mabira Forest.

We take a short drive to visit the source of the Nile for relaxation, excitement, and discovery. We enjoy a boat ride on the River Nile as it starts exiting Lake Victoria. This will be the last site on this adventurous Jinja tour with a boat ride to the “Source of the Nile” at the now-submerged Rippon Falls.

This is where the Nile starts its 4000-mile journey to the Mediterranean Sea traversing various countries. The boat rides take between thirty minutes and two hours depending on the available time. Listen to your local site guide tell you stories of the ‘source of the Nile’ as believed by the locals.

On the boat ride, you will see numerous water birds like Cormorants, Pelicans, Storks, and Kingfishers among others. After the boat ride, we proceed to Jinja Town. The town itself is a buzzing little place with some wonderful, crumbling colonial architecture.

After the Jinja town tour, we visit Bujagali Falls where you can see some of the rafters that are going down the falls late afternoon.
