Lamu Island Kipungani Village 1-Day Boat Tour is a full-day boat trip around the island of Lamu (from 0900 Hours to 17 Hours). Visits two of the most popular villages on Lamu Island – Matondoni and Kipungani.

Sailing around the island to visit the old Swahili village of Matondoni, where traditional lateen-sailed boats (dhows) are built, and the lovely village of Kipungani with its wonderful beach. Lunch is included. Matondoni village is known for the building and repairing of dhows and the village lies on the Noth West coast of the island some 7.3 km (4.5 miles) west of Lamu town.

Matondoni village is famous for traditional crafts such as weaving straw mats of palm leaves and coconut ropes. Kipungani villagers are friendly and hospitable and the village itself is very attractive – an unspoiled example of coastal rural life. The people of the village are mainly fishermen, some of whom still build the traditional dhow fishing boats.

The women weave the coconut mats makeka and thatching makuti for the Kizingoni houses and grow coconuts and mangoes in their shambas at the back. Many of our staff come from the village or now live there.
