This 3-day road safari takes you to the Laikipia region where you will stay in a private Rhino sanctuary called Solio Game Reserve (Solio Ranch) located 30 km North of Nyeri Town. Solio Game Reserve is a private wildlife sanctuary, tucked in the valley between the lofty slopes of Mount Kenya and the peaks of the Aberdare Mountains.
Beginning and ending in Nairobi, the tour travels by road to Solio Ranch located about 180 km (4 hours) north of Nairobi along the Nyeri – Nyahururu road.
Solio Ranch plays a major part in preserving and breeding Black Rhinos in Kenya the reserve is internationally recognized as the most successful private rhino breeding reserve in Kenya and visitors will find that sightings of up to 40 rhinoceros at a time are not uncommon.
The Reserve also offers some of the best leopard viewings in the country. Other animals include the rhino (both black & white), buffalo, zebra, eland, impala, waterbuck, Thompson’s gazelle, and warthog.
Most of the plains species can be seen here, the predators, lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena, as well as two northern species, the reticulated giraffe and the beisa oryx. The Solio Reserve is also an ideal place for bird-watching.
More than 300 species are found in the game reserve including European rollers, flycatchers, and birds of prey such as vultures, eagle owls, Montagu’s Harriers, long-crested eagles, and buzzards. Also crowned cranes and the European stork can be found here every year.
You will spend 2 nights at the luxury Solio Lodge – the only lodge or camp within the historic 45,000-acre Solio Ranch and its enclosed, 19,000-acre Solio Reserve. The lodge has five contemporary luxurious cottages with private decks and panoramic views of the nearby hills and Mount Kenya in the distance.
Solio Lodge offers a wide range of activities including game drives, horse riding, a visit to a Kenya coffee plantation, and bird-watching. You can also take a helicopter to nearby Mount Kenya for a hilltop picnic breakfast or go trout fishing in the Aberdare National Park.
Back at the Lodge, you can relax with the help of massage therapists who are available for in-room treatments.

Solio Ranch nearby Places of Interest: Venture further afield and visit the Aberdare National Park and Mt. Kenya. Excursions to Mt Kenya: Excursions to Mt Kenya are a highlight as you can go trout fishing in the rivers or hiking on the lower slopes. Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Solio Game Reserve
0800 Hours: African Spice Safaris representative will provide a safari briefing before you depart for Solio Game Reserve/ Ranch situated 180 km north of Nairobi or 30 km north of Nyeri on the Nyeri – Nyahururu road. The journey takes around 4 hours from Nairobi.
1300 Hours: We arrive in time for lunch, check in to our rooms then later relax before the evening game drive. There are great chances of encountering numerous black and white rhinos, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, oryx, antelope, Thompson’s gazelle, impala, waterbuck, and warthog.
Solio Ranch also offers some of the best leopard viewings in the country, and lions and cheetahs can also be found.

Day 2: Full Day at the Solio Game Reserve
We spend a full day in the Solio Game Reserve/ Ranch on morning and afternoon game drives. The Solio Reserve is also an ideal place for bird-watching.
There are many things to do while at Solio Game Reserve Safari e.g. horseback riding, bush walks, mountain biking, night and day game drives, and fishing trips to Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains.
Other activities include: Stretching your legs on foot or by mountain bike in the Solio Ranch and exploring the ranch with an early morning horse ride.
One could visit the Aberdare National Park to see its legendary elephants, search for the rare Bongo antelope or fish in its rivers or Take a scenic helicopter flight up Mount Kenya with a picnic breakfast
