Tsavo East National Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya at 13,747 square kilometers. Situated in a semi-arid area and is located near the town of Voi in the Taita-Taveta County.

The park is divided into east and west sections by the A109 road and a railway. Named for the Tsavo River, which flows west to east through the national park, it borders the Chyulu Hills National Park, and the Mkomazi Game Reserve in Tanzania.

Inside Tsavo East National Park, the Athi and Tsavo rivers converge to form the Galana River. Most of the park consists of semi-arid grasslands and savanna.

Tsavo East offers great wildlife viewing in pristine wilderness. All of the Big Five are here. Elephants are common, and their red dust coating makes them stand out against the arid environment. Of the big cats, lions are most easily spotted. Buffalo, zebra and plenty of Masai giraffes are some of the other animals you can expect to see.

Tsavo East has a good range of unusual antelope. This is one of the few places to see the fringed-eared oryx. The lesser kudu is very shy, but can sometimes be seen darting off into the bushes.

The long-necked gerenuk can be found standing on its hind-legs to reach the sparse foliage of trees and bushes. With some luck, you might spot the critically endangered hirola or Hunter’s hartebeest.

Tsavo East hosts a number of the most beautiful hotels and resorts known to the world. For those seeking fine hotels and resorts, Tsavo East offers some of the best five-star accommodation in Kenya.

Among the best hotels includes: Ashnil Aruba Lodge, Doa Safari Club, Galana Crocodile Camp, Impala Safari Lodge, Ithumba Hill Camp, Kiboko camp, Leopard Lodge, Loyk Tsavo Camp, Manyatta Camp, Osteria Swara Camp, Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge, Satao Camp Among others.
