Our 2-Day / 1 Night Voi Safari Lodge short Safari is for those who do not have enough time for a longer Safari while on vacation on the Kenyan Coast. This Safari offers you 2 Days inside Tsavo East National Park located 160 km/ 2.5 hours drive from Mombasa. This 1-night safari could begin from any Coastal Kenyan town including Malindi & Watamu, Mombasa, and Diani Beach Ukunda.

Voi Safari Lodge overnight Road Safari explores Tsavo East National Park, Kenya’s largest game park incorporating a massive 13700 km², whilst Tsavo West is about 9065 km² in size. Tsavo East is renowned for its large herds of elephants, often dramatically coated in fine red dust. The population is over 10 000 elephants strong.

Tsavo East is notorious for its lions – the ‘man-eating’ lions of Tsavo, in particular. The lions of Tsavo became famous when railway crews were attacked and many of the workers eaten in 1898. Some reports estimate that the two lions killed about 135 people building a railway bridge over the Tsavo River, while recent evidence suggests that 34 people were eaten.

In addition to its famous elephants and lions, Tsavo East is also home to the other members of the Big Five – leopard, buffalo, and rhino. The black rhino population is monitored to protect these endangered mammals from poachers, but they are rarely spotted on game drives. Tsavo East is also home to endangered hirola antelopes.

Tsavo also hosts a wide variety of other wild animals, from cheetahs, hyenas, and crocodiles to hippos, giraffes, and Grevy’s zebra, along with species typical of northern Kenya, including gerenuk and Somali ostrich. Over 500 bird species have been recorded in Tsavo East, including the black kite, crowned crane, hornbill, lovebird, and sacred ibis.

Accommodation on this safari is at the Voi Safari Lodge, built on a high outcrop known as Lion Hill overlooking the vast plains. The rooms are not as luxurious as other lodges due to their age but are adequate.

However the general areas restaurants bars shops reception viewing and dining areas and areas are beautiful as are the surrounding gardens which are frequently visited by Yellow Baboons, Hyrax, and flocks of Swallows who have set up home in the lodge itself.

Day 1: Mombasa/ Malindi or Watamu – Drive to Tsavo East National Park

Depart Mombasa in the morning by driving along the Mombasa/ Nairobi Highway entering Tsavo East National Park and entering the Park through Bachuma Gate. The Park is noted for its vast elephant herds and a variety of games including giraffes, buffalo, zebra, and waterbuck. Lunch will be at Voi Safari Lodge. The afternoon game drive follows.

Day 2: Tsavo East National Park – Drive to Mombasa/ Malindi or Watamu

An early morning game drive is planned then return to Voi Safari Lodge for a full English breakfast. Thereafter depart by road as you enjoy a game drive en route to your coastal town. Lunch is included. After lunch depart by road arriving late in the afternoon. Drop back at your hotel residence.
