This short 2-day Zanzibar holiday package explores the tropical island of Zanzibar with a rich cultural and historical experience, along with its dazzling white beaches with azure waters. From Dar es Salaam, we take a flight or a speed boat in and out of Zanzibar.
Upon arrival at Zanzibar airport or harbor, we transfer to Stone Town the charming capital city of Zanzibar Island and begin our tour. Stone Town is the oldest city and the cultural heart of Zanzibar and has hardly changed in the last 200 years.
It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques, and grand houses, whose original owners competed with each other over the extravagance of their dwellings, which is reflected in the beautiful brass-studded and carved wooden doors.
You will spend 2 days exploring Stone Town with its narrow streets, impressive architecture, bustling markets, and small but interesting museums. And in the company of a professional local guide, you will also see many reminders of Zanzibar’s historic involvement in the slave trade, abolished in these parts by the Sultan of Zanzibar in 1873.
Places that may be of interest to you include Emerson Spice House for views across Stone Town’s exotic skyline, and Capital Art Studio – a photography shop with treasures of the past and present portraits of the East African Island.
You could visit Darajani Market – Zanzibar’s main market with everything from spices, fresh fish, slabs of meat, and huge baskets full of live chickens to sandals, plastic buckets, and mobile phones. Not to be missed is the Forodhani food market – a seaside food market that comes alive at night with a huge variety of seafood and barbecued meats!
Historical places include David Livingstone house, Hamamni Persian Bath, the Palace Museum, the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum, Mercury House, the Old Dispensary, and St Joseph’s Cathedral.
One could also opt to take a sunset dhow Sail – sail aboard a sunset cruise and watch the historic Stone Town shoreline glide-by, by while the lights from mainland Dar es Salaam twinkle in the distance. Anyone visiting Zanzibar simply must go on a spice tour.
With a local guide, you will walk amongst vanilla pod vines, fields of lemongrass, cumin seed pods, and turmeric root. Smell, sample, savor – the experience is a sensual journey into the spices that flavor our food. On your second day while in Zanzibar you could choose to take a half-day trip to Prison (Changuu) Island or visit Jozani Forest and prison island.

It includes a visit to the former slave market site, which now stands as an Anglican church built in 1871, a town market, visit the Zanzibar Memorial Museum, the House of Wonder built-in 1883 (Beit-Al-Ajab), the old Arab Fort, Palace Museum, Old Indian dispensary (cultural center) to Maruhubi Palace ruins via Livingstone House.
Dinner in Stone Town (extra cost) at Forodhani Gardens, the Old Fort, or by the waterfront at the Livingstone Bar and Restaurant.

Day 2: Zanzibar Island – Speed boat or fly to Dar-es-salaam
0800 Hours: We enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then depart for the Spice Tour. During the tour, you will learn about the spices, and herbal values, in cooking food and dyeing traditional ceremonial outfits for weddings and festivals. During the tour, you will walk through villages and spice plantations.
The spice farm workers will climb up the trees, looking for fruits, leaves, and barks for you to feel and taste. You can buy fresh spices directly from the farms.
1230 Hours: After the tour, you will be invited for a traditional Swahili lunch served in a local house. Later we shall visit the Kidichi Persian Baths built in 1850 by the first Sultan of Zanzibar as a gift for his Persian wife Sheharzad (granddaughter of Fateh Ali Shah of Persia).
After we shall transfer you to the harbor/ airport for your return trip to Dar-es-salaam.
