Nyerere National Park 2 Day Fly-in Safari

Nyerere National Park 2 Day Fly-in Safari is a short Tanzania wildlife holiday by air from Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park and back to Dar es Salaam to experience crowd-free wildlife viewing in this remote and amazingly wild African park.

Nyerere National Park flight services are normally available from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and Arusha into different airstrips in the park depending on which camp to be visited. Located in southern Tanzania and far from the big crowds, the Nyerere National Park is Africa’s largest game reserve and one of our favorite wildlife viewing areas.

Spend two days exploring Nyerere National Park (formerly the Selous Game Reserve) on 4×4 game drives in an open-sided safari vehicle. Africa’s largest National Park, Nyerere is an incredibly vast wilderness area spanning 30,893km2. It is the size of some small European countries.

This massive game reserve incorporates unspoiled mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, and plains. Selous is also noted for its high plant and wildlife diversity. On our game drives, we get to experience the diverse habitats of Nyerere National Park, from grassland plains and wetlands to woodlands and riverine forests.

We stop to watch animals and birds, take photos and have picnic lunches at scenic spots overlooking the lakes. What animals will we see in Nyerere National Park? Common wildlife sightings include hippos, endangered wild dogs, wildebeest, and lions, along with plenty of plains game such as zebras, giraffes, and a variety of antelopes.

Nyerere National Park is home to the Big Five of Africa. In addition to lions, buffalos and elephants are commonly sighted. Leopards are occasionally seen but rhinos are only found in the southern part of Selous. There are plenty of crocodiles and spotted hyenas so chances of spotting these carnivores are high. Antelope species include sable, puku, greater kudu, eland, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, bushbuck, duiker, klipspringer, oryx, waterbuck, and an abundance of impalas.

During our Nyerere National Park 2 Day Fly-in Safari, you have several activities to choose from. These include standard daytime game drives, safaris, nature walking operations, fly camping trips, and mobile camping under the stars – very adventurous but not for the faint-hearted!
