Mount Kenya Climbing 3 Days 2 Nights Hiking Safari Mount Kenya Climbing 3 Days 2 Nights Hiking Safari

Mount Kenya Climbing 3 Days 2 Nights Hiking Safari is a quick trek to Mount Kenya that is only recommended for the well-acclimatized and energetic mountain hikers.

This 3 day short trek tour is designed for those who have a minimum amount of time and who want to reach the third highest peak Point Lenana.

The routing is quit convenient for larger trekking parties since it follows the same trail up and down allowing those unable to reach the very top to wait behind at the lower camps as the fitter ones attempt the summit.

It is a challenging hike to the summit following straightforward paths and making use of accommodation huts located along the way.

However, attempting the summit on day 3 and descending up to the Sirimon road head on the same day will be difficult though achievable.

The safari all begins in the morning where you drive from Nairobi to the base lodge on the western slopes of Mt Kenya for lunch.

Later begin a 3 to 4 hour hike through forest, bamboo, rosewood and heather zones to Old Moses camp (3300 metres). The following morning you on day 2 you hike for 7 to 8 hours to Shipton's camp (4,236 meters).

On the 3rd day, your trek combines a demanding attempt of the summit and descend to Oldmoses camp and further down where you connect with the vehicle for transfer off the mountain.

This tusk is really challenging and needs a lot of resilience.

Mount Kenya Climbing 3 Days 2 Nights Hiking Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Nanyuki – Proceed to Old Moses camp (3,300 meters)
0730: Hours: Drive from Nairobi to our base lodge on the western slopes of Mt. Kenya for lunch. After lunch a full briefing and equipment check before we begin the mountain trek.

We’ll meet the crew at this point, each one has a personal porter and there are extra porters for mountain equipment and food.

It takes about one hour to get to the Sirimon Park Gate (2,600 meters) crossing the equator en-route.

On completion of park entry formalities you begin a 3-4 hour hike through forest, bamboo, rosewood and heather zones to Old Moses camp (3,300 meters).

Today we gain 740 meters on the ascent and begin to truly acclimatize. The forest and bamboo are home to hundreds of buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks and a plethora of bird species.

    Accommodation Options:
Budget Accommodation: Old Moses Hut (3,340 meters).

    Meal Plan: {Lunch & Dinner}

Day 2: Old Moses camp (3,300 meters) – Hike to Shipton's Hut (4,236 meters)
After an early breakfast we commence a 7-8 hours trek to Shipton's camp (4,236 meters). Today's trek is long and interesting but also a good test on individual fitness.

You’ll ascent close to 900 meters going up the surreal Mackinder Valley with its strange vegetation of giant lobelia and groundsel, unique to equatorial African mountains.

Here we stay at Shipton's Hut (4,236 meters), just below the glaciers and jagged peaks of bare rock that surround the main summits.

    Accommodation Options:
Budget Accommodation: Shipton's Hut (4,236 meters).

    Meal Plan: {Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner}

Day 3:  Shipton's Hut (4,236 meters) – Hike to the Summit – Descend to Park Gate – Drive to Nairobi
0300 Hours: Predawn start for the summit attempt – you’ll need a bright head torch for this. Go up steep screes and a bare rocky track to reach the hikers summit, Point Lenana at 4,985 meters in time for sunrise – to add to the exhilaration.

Kilimanjaro is usually visible 340 km to the south on a clear day. The climb is tough going through frozen scree and requiring some scrambling on final stretch to reach the summit – this is unavoidable on any route.

0630 Hours: We aim to reach the summit and witness the magical sunrise over the equator at 0630 Hours.

Descend back to Shipton’s camp for a hefty brunch then continue the descent to Oldmoses Camp (3,340 meters) arriving in a further 4 to 5 hours (Or relax the rest of the day at Shipton’s and descend on day 4 if time permits).

A pre-dawn start is made to ensure a successful summit bid and in time for a clear view of the majestic summit scenery.

After ascending Point. Lenana we return to our base camp and then proceed down the mountain and back to Nairobi. Hikers intending to complete this hike in 3 days should be very well prepared and fit enough.

Malindi Day Trip Bio-Ken Snake Farm Tour Watamu is a visit to a research centre housing fascinating reptiles and dealing mostly with snakes and snake bites called Bio-Ken Snake Farm in Watamu.

If you have an interest in learning about some of the slithering animals that are found in the ecosystems of coastal East Africa, a visit to Bio-Ken Snake Farm with African Spice Safaris will give you an insightful herpetology tour in this part of Watamu that is sure to amaze and thrill you!

It houses the largest collection of snakes in East Africa and is open to visitors.

As well as touring the facilities and the reptiles, visitors can go on day safaris to look for snakes in their natural habitat with trained guides.

Guided trips to Jimbe and Gede take you into the natural habitats of the snakes so that you learn how to locate and identify them in a much less controlled environment.

Bio-Ken Snake Farm is regarded as the best of the snake parks along Kenya’s coast. There are more than 260 snakes at Bio-Ken Farm representing nearly 60 species.

They also have snakes, turtles, lizards, crocodiles, frogs and toads. Kenya is home to 127 snake species, of which only 18 have caused human fatalities and 93 are not venomous or dangerous.

Highly-experienced guides at Bio-Ken Snake Farm can answer any questions you have about reptiles, and will provide you with an entertaining and informative tour of the premises.

While at the farm, you not only get to see these animals up close, but you also watch as the staff milk the snakes for their venom which is used to make anti-venom for local communities and medical facilities.

This center has a very scientific approach. We have heard many interesting information about snakes, their conservation, information regarding identification of dangerous snakes and probable snake-bite symptoms.

Bio-Ken Farm holds biannual snake-bite seminars which are attended by experts from all over the world.

As part of the farm’s outreach and educational programs to protect the snakes and promote the preservation of their habitats, Bio-Ken Snake Farm often takes the snakes on the road for demonstrations at local hotels.

Bio-Ken is promoting an educational scheme to teach people the correct procedures when faced with a snake-bite, the importance of snakes and why they should not necessarily be killed on sight.

On our "normal" daily Deep Sea Fishing Trips, fishing starts right off the Malindi Waters. Depending on the fishing and seasonal conditions, we then head for the known Hotspots (e.g. Mambrui, Ngomeni, Watamu Banks, Rips etc)… trying different techniques:

    * Baiting for Tiger Sharks
    * Jigging for Gts, Yellowtails, Grouper and Snapper
    * Trolling baits and/or lures for Sailfish, Tuna, Wahoo and Marlin
    * Power drifting with live bait for Marlin, Shark and Giant Trevally
    * Bottom fishing with bait for Grouper and some tasty Snappers for your lunchtime

If you are a serious angler or just interested in trying your hand at deep sea fishing, Malindi is the place to be for your angling excursion on the Indian Ocean.

Whatever our clients want, the experienced kingfisher crews are always trying to fulfill their wishes. The novice angler is encouraged to hook the fish on his own and the helpful crew will patiently teach him all the tricks.

What sets Malindi apart from other fishing destinations is the unique combination of underwater terrain and ocean currents.

Fishing season begins in July, and during this time of year are monsoon winds from the south, most fishing boats prefer to stay close to shore between Malindi and Watamu to avoid the currents that can interfere with fishing.

Some of the superlative, sentient bait fishing is found here, and you can expect to have the chance to hook black marlin, wahoo, giant trevally, kingfish and even enormous yellowfin tuna.

Towards the end of September, sailfish populations increase and the fish are found in the area until the end of December when two new arrivals appears – the monsoon winds from the north and the marlins.

You can find all three of the primary marlin in Malindi until March, including striped, blue and black.

Should you prefer a less intense fishing excursion, Malindi also offers creek fishing where you can find flathead, barracuda, trevally, mangrove snapper, queen fish and many other finned species. When the ocean is calm, you can also find good fishing on the reef using light tackle.

Should you prefer to include fishing as part of your Malindi trip, African Spice Safaris can make the necessary pre-arrangements as part of your bush and beach holiday in Kenya.

Malindi Day Tours Marafa Hells Kitchen Excursion Malindi Day Tours Marafa Hells Kitchen Excursion

Malindi Day Tours Marafa Hells Kitchen Excursion is a half day tour to a mini-canyon officially known as Hell’s Kitchen located 1 hour's drive from Malindi town.

There is nothing evil in Malindi’s Hell’s Kitchen but a very hot little canyon. The site is located in the town of Marafa a small unassuming village with conspicuous baobab trees.

The Marafa Depression, also known as Hell's Kitchen, is an odd sandstone canyon. Known locally as Nyari – "the place broken by itself" or – it was once a great sandstone ridge worn by wind, rain, and floods into a series of jagged gorges.

The layer-cake colors of the sandstone reveal whites, pinks, oranges, and deep crimsons, making the gorge particularly striking at sundown, when tones of the ribbed sandstone gullies are highlighted and mirrored by those of the setting sun.

Naturally, local stories accompany the naming it as “Hell’s Kitchen”, There was once a town located where the gorge is now.

One day, all the town's inhabitants received a vision telling them a miracle was coming and to move their town.

Everyone moved except one old woman who refused to leave. The abandoned town then supposedly vanished – with the remaining woman still inside – leaving the Marafa Depression in its place.

And the woman cooks food hence explaining the smell that emanates from the gorge, of sumptuous rice cooking on certain evenings.

Sunset is particularly evocative and we recommend planning your trip in the afternoon so as to finish the day with a truly moving moment: it is as if the rocks have caught fire!

Enjoy the nature walk in the evening and later on you will be able to observe baboons and hyenas in that place before a magic sunset.

The best time to visit is in the afternoon after lunch. After the beautiful and informative walking tour of the place with a guide you will be welcomed to rest on the benches around as you enjoy the most beautiful sight of Sunset in Africa.

Enjoy a minute by minute setting of the sun as it bids goodbye to the day, the colors of the African sun set and the variety of soils at hell's kitchen will leave you with tears of joy.

    It's an Amazing site.
