Sands at Chale Island Hotel Chale Island Mombasa South Coast lies in 15 acres of indigenous ancient forest, with a stunning 10,000 square meter white sand bay in the small romantic Chale Island, 10 kilometers south of Diani.
Chale Island is situated 600 meters off the mainland and lies just 4 degrees South of the Equator. The Island is 1.2 kilometers long and 0.8 kilometers wide.
The hotel is a contemporary mix of Swahili structures, Italian stucco, Lamu furniture, objects of African art and varnished Mahogany.
There are six categories of accommodation blending with the natural environment and reflecting the traditional architecture.
The accommodation includes 28 standard rooms, 2 penthouse suites, 28 bandas, over water suite and suite on the rocks.
Each standard semi-circular room features Swahili day beds set on breezy veranda facing the ocean. The penthouses suites are set above the swaying treetops and offer breathtaking views of both ocean and island.
Each penthouse suite features a separate sitting room, a verandah with a stunning 270 degree view of the ocean, and an upstairs grotto with a Jacuzzi on the roof facing the sunset
The bandas have high, palm thatch roofs with amazing views of the sea, beach, or panoramas encompassing mangroves and the setting sun over the Shimba hills.
Sun beds are set on private front lawns and large verandas feature Swahili day beds. Some bandas have the addition of large doors that open from the bathroom directly into the private rear garden with an open air shower.
The Overwater Suite is set on the waters on the northwest of the island with stunning views of Bird Island, Gazi bay and, in the distant sunset, the Shimba hills.
The water suite has a large bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, which looks out over the channel, and has a separate sitting room. It also has a ladder down to the sea.
Suite on the Rocks is set on a separate islet connected to the main Island by a stone bridge.
The suite features a high thatched roof that plunges down in the middle allowing rainwater to fall directly into a mini garden in the center of the room
There is a circular stairway that leads around an intricately crafted wall garden to an upstairs lounge and the front veranda overlooks a private Jacuzzi on the cliff face and sunbathing deck.
The main restaurant serves traditional Kenyan cuisine, mixed with both Italian and Oriental dishes. The Chapateria serves a la carte menu including variety of snacks, salads, main courses and pizzas
The well stocked bars offer espressos, cold drinks, cocktails and a wide variety of wines and spirits.

The Maisha Poa Spa and wellness center has 9 open-air treatment rooms situated over the lake offer a wide range of treatments to pamper and re-energize the body and the mind.
The fitness room features state of the art fitness equipment. There are 3 outdoor pools with plentiful sun beds on the pool terrace.
The main pool is built with local stone and connected by a small waterfall to a sixteen seater whirlpool.
