The wildlife is far from being confined within the Reserve boundaries and an even larger area extends beyond the game Reserve.

Centuries of close association with the wildlife has resulted in an almost symbiotic relationship where wildlife and Masai people live in peace with one another.

After lunch, explore the Reserve on a late evening 'Spice' game drive.

No matter how much you have thought about Africa, this is more than you expected—the big five-Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Cape buffalo are in abundance.

Game viewing is great from the air with the opportunity for beautiful pictures. The annual wildebeest migration is expected in the Masai Mara between July and early November.

Millions of aimals migrate to the Mara from Serengeti in search for fresh green pastures and water.

It’s worth noting that every game drive is different from the other, and missing one is missing out on the fun.

7 Days Samburu Lake Nakuru Lake Naivasha Masai Mara Safari begins with a visit to Samburu National Reserve – a not very well-known, but definitely worth a visit.

Samburu National Reserve is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Kenya.

This means plenty of water, trees and shade to attract wildlife like elephant, lion, giraffe and zebra from the surrounding savannah plains. Leopards are also regularly spotted.

The reserve is not particularly well-known and is therefore not too crowded – a huge plus in Kenya where so many reserves are often overflowing with tourists.

It is often grouped together with the Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves as they lie so close together.

Lake Nakuru national park where we may view some flamingos thrive in the salinity of the Lake. The park is dominated by a gentle undulating terrain with open bush and woodlands, typical of the dry rift valley vegetation.

Twenty seven percent (27%) of the park is composed of the Lake Nakuru waters. The park was declared a rhino sanctuary in 1983.The Rhino stocking programme which ensued received white rhinos from South Africa.

There are endangered black and  White Rhino as well as other wildlife species in the lake.

The Lake Naivasha and its surrounds are rich in natural bounty, and the fertile soils and water supply have made this one of Kenya’s prime agricultural regions.

Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophloea, known as the yellow fever tree. These forests abound with bird life, and Naivasha is known as a world class birding destination.

Giraffes wander among the acacia, Buffalo wallow in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the Lakes large hippo populations sleep the day out in the shallows.

The Masai Mara Game Reserve – Kenya’s most famous and finest game sanctuary. The Mara also offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here.

7 Day Samburu Ol Pejeta Naivasha Masai Mara Road Safari Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi Drive to Samburu Game Reserve
This morning we travel by road to Kenya's northern frontier. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River.

It is also one of Kenya's most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy's zebras and Beisa oryxes.

We also enjoy Larsens Tented Camp or Samburu Intrepids Camp, our luxurious hostelry set beneath a canopy of acacia trees along the banks of the river.

    Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve
Dawn breaks in golden bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning the river from our tent’s veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand.

Before the dew is off the grass, we're off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve's grasslands and acacia woodlands.

And so the day is spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in our cozy camp.

Today we travel to the exotic Sweetwaters Tented Camp or Porini Rhino Camp in the secluded heart of Ol Pejeta Ranch and Rhino Reserve.

Here, these magnificent beasts are given sanctuary from those who would take their lives to sell their horns.

Here too, the Jane Goodall Institute operates a remarkable Chimpanzee Sanctuary where we meet the primates face to- face. Our camp also overlooks one of the busiest waterholes in the area and offers elephant, giraffe and myriad plains game.

This is Africa as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safaris to tour Africa in comfort and splendor. Our tents at Sweetwaters or Porini Rhino Camp will remind us of this bygone era.
