The western shore has hot springs and spouting geysers, spurting steam and bubbling geothermal pools.

Local populations also believe that exposure to the geyser’s vapors acts as a treatment for respiratory and dermatological problems – however, caution should be exercised if attempting this. The steam is very hot.

Then go to Mount Kenya which is the second tallest mountain in Africa. It is pristine wilderness with lakes, tarns, glaciers, dense forest, mineral springs and a selection of rare and endangered species of animals.

Wildlife in the park include Elephants, tree hyrax, white tailed mongoose, suni, black fronted duiker, mole rat, bushbucks, water buck and Elands. Animals rarely seen include leopard, bongo, giant forest hog.

Our next stop is Lake Nakuru National Park dominated by a gentle undulating terrain with open bush and woodlands, typical of the dry rift valley vegetation.

Twenty seven percent (27%) of the park is composed of the Lake Nakuru waters.  The park was declared a rhino sanctuary in 1983.

The Rhino stocking programme which ensued received white rhinos from South Africa. Currently the sanctuary has approximately 45 black and 31 white Rhinoceros.

The grand finale is the Masai Mara Game Reserve – Kenya’s most famous and finest game sanctuary.

In the months of June and July each year, the wildebeests in their troops arrive at the Kenyan border, ready to cross the steep banks of the broad and fast flowing Mara River.

This crossing is truly the greatest episode of the entire migration. Hot on their heels are the predators of the savannah –lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vultures.

The banks of the Mara River provide one of the best vantage points to witness the drama.

The Mara also offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here.

You will most likely see the Big Five- lion, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and elephant. Not to mention numerous plain animals.

His love for Africa led him to make Kenya his second home for over twenty-five years.

The club has over the years attracted legions of internationally renowned members and guests from the world of politics, film and theatre.

Sir Winston Churchill and Lord Mountbatten were members, and enjoyed sojourns at the club, as have legends Clark Gable and John Wayne, and more recent celebrities such as Robert Redford, Sean Connery and Catherine Deneuve.

You too will receive the star treatment as you settle into your suite or cozy cottage. Pay a visit and do not miss the animal orphanage operated by the William Holden Wildlife Foundation.

Here wildlife foundlings are raised with great care and many are quite tame. It is an opportunity to get close to some wild creatures that despite a struggle have managed to survive.

The historic Mount Kenya Safari Club, set in over 100 acres of landscaped gardens. This exclusive resort offers an experience of refined elegance and luxury, as well as a sense of old Hollywood in its glamorous past.

Amboseli National Park is one of the classic images of East Africa, let alone Kenya, is that of a herd of elephant strolling across the plains with the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro in the background.

The park is one of the smaller game parks in Kenya, but it offers you the best opportunity of seeing the critically endangered black rhino, along with a spectacular range of wildlife.

Streams from Kilimanjaro surface in the centre of Amboseli, creating swamps that attract and support a rich diversity of wild animals and birdlife.

Most of Amboseli is flat and dusty and so the best spots for game viewing are these wetlands.

Tsavo West National Park is situated west of its sister, Tsavo East National Park, and is approximately 188 km west of Mombasa. The Park covers 7065 km².

Temperature remains the same throughout the year at 27-31°C (81-88°F) during the day and 22-24°C (72-75°F) during the night. Humidity is high from December through April.

The major tourist attractions at Tsavo West National Park include safari tours to see the "Big 5" African animals (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino).

Other animals in the park include giraffe, hippo, cheetah, hartebeest, Hunter's hartebeest, several species of shrew and rat, Grevy's zebra and wild dogs.

Mzima Springs is at the north end of Tsavo West. Here, one can watch hippos bathing underwater. Lake Jipe attracts a lot of wildlife and is a good place for bird watching.

Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a privately owned wildlife sanctuary in Kenya. It is located in the Coast Province in Taita-Taveta District.

It hosts Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, lion, Giraffe, Zebra, Hartebeest, Impala, Waterbuck, Thomson's gazelle, lesser kudu, dik-dik, and other smaller animals, including a great diversity of bird life.
