\n\t\tThe following day you’ll spend time tracking and encountering the mountain gorillas. The gorilla groups are allocated to the guests at random at the park headquarters. However, our experienced guides have over time built a strong relationship with the park wardens. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tThey normally talk to them before time and express the clients’ interests in specific guerilla groups. They normally get a positive response over this. The trek may last from 1-8 hours depending on the movements of the gentle giants.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tYou’ll also spend the third day walking through the stunning foothills of the volcanoes to visit the graves of Dian Fossey and the gorillas with which she worked. Trekking to the Dian Fossey Tomb is one of the most sought after safari activities carried out while visiting Volcanoes national park for a gorilla trip. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tThe trek involves a 30 minutes drive from the park headquarters to the trail head to access the Karisoke research camp where visitors walk for 10 minutes to the park boundary.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tDay 2: Gorilla Trekking – Volcanoes National Park Rwanda<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n\t\tAfter an early breakfast at the lodge, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park at 0630. Arrive at the park headquarters for registration – a simple process where the park staff asses your fitness level to determine which Gorilla Family you will visit. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tThereafter, the park staff brief on trekking times and conditions to the various groups based upon their location in the park the previous evening. There are a total of 80 gorilla permits available each day with a maximum of 8 trekkers visiting any one group. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tTreks vary in duration depending on which gorilla group you are assigned to. After locating your assigned gorilla group, you will spend approximately one hour in their company before heading back down the volcano slopes. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tThe park is located in the Virunga Mountains, a magnificent chain of dormant volcanoes in the north of Rwanda which it shares with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tThe mountains form part of the extension of the Congo-Nile divide, separating two of Africa´s most important watersheds. They are also home to the world’s last surviving Mountain Gorilla populations, currently about 700 individuals. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\tDian Fossey is an American zoologist who dedicated her life to conserving and habituation mountain gorillas for over a decade. Her grave lies next to Karisoke Research Center. After this trek, we shall transfer back to Kigali for your departure.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n
