Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: USA or Canada Nairobi, Kenya
Board your International flight bound for Nairobi, Kenya.

Day 2: Nairobi
Welcome to Nairobi, the city in the sun. An awaiting Safari Director accompanies you to the elegant Norfolk Hotel or the warm and cozy Nairobi Serena Hotel.

Day 3: Nairobi Ol Pejeta Sweetwaters Conservancy
This morning we drive from Nairobi and proceed north, driving through lush tea and coffee estates to Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp. Sweetwater’s land, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, and its sumptuous ranch were once the private domain of famed multi-millionaire, Adnan Kashoggi.

We visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a charming haven established by the Jane Goodall Institute to provide sanctuary to orphaned chimps. In fact Sweetwaters boasts excellent game viewing with the highest ratio of game to area of any park or reserve in Kenya.

Moreover, the camp has its own private waterhole and saltlick so we’ll be guaranteed unprecedented close encounters. Whether its day or night game drives, camel trekking, lion tracking, al fresco dining or relaxing by pool, Sweetwaters is bound to delight.

Day 4 : Ol Pejeta Conservancy Samburu Game Reserve
This morning, travel to the Samburu Game Reserve. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River.

We also enjoy Samburu Serena Lodge our luxurious hostelry set on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, blending perfectly into its surroundings of tall trees, reflecting the lifestyle of the local Samburu people through the use of native materials and design.

An afternoon game drive reveals unique northern species, including the reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Grevy’s Zebra and the graceful long-necked Gerenuk.

Day 5: Samburu Game Reserve
Absorb the beautiful surroundings during morning and afternoon bush drives. Watch crocodiles basking on the muddy riverbanks and the Vervet monkey frolicking in the late afternoon sun.

At night, leopard can sometimes be seen on the riverbank opposite your lodge.

Samburu is an excellent place for the photographer as well. The Park's vivid colors and the contrasts between sky, bush and sand are a must to capture on film.

Day 6: Samburu Masai Mara Game Reserve

This morning we enplane for the Mara, winging west over the dramatic Great Rift Valley to the unspoiled savannah of the Masai Mara where magnificent events await. Here we may savour a Bush Walk with an expert naturalist guide, experiencing the world of the Mara from the ground up— an invigorating opportunity to stretch our legs and be a part of the land.

Or we may try a Hot-Air Balloon Safari. Game viewing is never dull in the Mara, and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings, such as a pride of lion stalking their prey, a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree, or a herd of elephant protecting their young from predators.

Our accommodations are equally superlative at the Mara Safari Club or Kichwa Tempo Camp with two nights under canvas, recalling the golden age of safaris.

Day 7 – Day 8: Masai Mara Game Reserve
The search for great predators and perhaps even cubs continues the next two days during extensive game runs. On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus some of Africa's largest prides of lion, herds of zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia boughs.

Running along the Tanzanian border, the Masai Mara forms Kenya's northern extension of the Greater Serengeti ecosystem.

It is here that the annual migration takes place, when more than a million wildebeest, with zebra and gazelle, march north to graze on the Mara's lush grasses. This vast, open space is like nowhere else on earth and is the perfect place to pause and reflect.

We also visit a Masai village and glimpse life so ancient and yet so enduring that it astonishes. The true pinnacle of our journey to the Mara however will be Bush Sundowners—a civilized Cocktail party staged in the untamed wilds of Africa.

Day 9: Masai Mara – Nairobi USA or Canada
Today you bid farewell to your lodge staff and the friends you have made as you leave the Masai Mara and transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi (perhaps catching a final glimpse of the animals en route).

A dayroom is available until departure for international flights this evening. The balance of the day is at your leisure - a perfect chance for any last minute shopping. This evening you are transferred to the airport where your departure flight awaits.
