Lake
Naivasha, Kenya
Lake Naivasha;
Lake Naivasha, Kenya is a freshwater lake in Kenya,
lying north west of Nairobi, outside the town of Naivasha.
The lake is almost 13 Kilometers across, but its waters
are shallow with an average depth of five metres.
Lake area varies greatly
according to rainfall, with an average range between
114 and 991 sq km's. Lake Naivasha is approximately
90 Kilometers from Nairobi and 10 Kilometers from
Naivasha town - District of Nakuru (Rift Valley Province).
Lake
Naivasha is home to an incredible variety of bird
species and there is a full effort to protect the
wildlife although the lake suffered a lot in the past
by tourism activities, flower industries and indigenous
species (such as red swamp crayfish and the water
hyacinth).
The
impressive submerged rim of an emerged crater, thus
forming the Crescent Island is the place to go. Hidden
behind the volcanic scenery at the upper-part of the
lake (Hippo pool), the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary
is well worth exploring and Joy Adamson's House (Elsamere)
and the Country Club are also attractive and very
charming sites.
There
is a large choice of accommodation along the "Moi
South Road" which gives easy access around the
lake and few very nice view points. In the south, the
Hell's Gate National Park worth also a one-day visit.
Further south, near the road going to Nairobi, rise
the huge Mt Longonot (2 776 metres).
The
Mt Longonot National Park encloses a fairly young
dormant volcano and there is possibility to climb
it in less than one hour.

Lake
Nakuru National Park
Lake
Nakuru National Park;
Nakuru
means "Dust or Dusty Place"
in Masai language. Lake Nakuru National
Park, close to Nakuru town, was established
in 1961. Lake Nakuru National Park is
world famous as the location of the greatest
bird spectacle on earth - myriads of fuschia
pink flamingoes whose numbers are legion,
often more than a million maybe two.
They
feed on the abundant algae, which thrives
in the warm waters. Scientists reckon
that the flamingo population at Lake Nakuru
National Park consumes about 250,000 kilos
of algae per hectare of surface area per
year. There are two types of flamingo
species: the Lesser flamingo can be distinguished
by its deep red carmine bill and pink
plumage unlike the greater, which has
a bill with a black tip. Approximately
