Tanzania Safaris are something special, whatever your age, budget, interests or previous safari experience. Few destinations in Africa can rival Tanzania’s diversity of wildlife, cultures and landscapes.
From the classic savannah destinations of the Serengeti, Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater to Mount Kilimanjaro – the World’s highest free-standing mountain to the beaches and coral reefs of Zanzibar, Pemba and the tropical coast, a Tanzania safari holiday delivers one massive experience after another.
And that’s before you discover the off-the-beaten-track experiences such as chimpanzee trekking in the magisterial rainforests of Mahale and Gombe or game viewing in the super-remote Selous Game Reserve. Even fewer destinations however can offer an experience to match the Serengeti Migration.
Most visitors to Tanzania are attracted by the opportunity to witness one of Nature’s most incredible events – the Great Migration – this an experience of a lifetime can be witnessed when on safari in Tanzania. The profusion of plains game also attracts predators such as hyenas and the Big Cats, so game-viewing can be particularly rewarding.
Tanzania offers a wide range of safaris for both first-timers and seasoned travelers. A luxury safari tour in Tanzania is ideal to combine with a beach holiday in Zanzibar. This small, pretty island in the Indian Ocean is known as The Spice Island and it has beautiful white sand beaches and a rich history and culture.
Why go on a Tanzania safari
Go Off the Beaten Path
Tanzania’s unbeaten paths lead to extraordinary destinations, such as Ruaha National Park, Katavi National Park, Mahale Mountains, Mafia Island and Pangani on the Tanzania Coast
Climb Africa’s Highest Mountain
Conquering Africa’s highest free standing mountain sits top of the bucket list for many a trekker and mountaineer. The best times of year to tackle the mountain are between January and February, and from July to October, when all routes are open.
See the Big 5 in an Ancient Volcano -Ngorongoro Crater
An UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world. A perfect sanctuary for wildlife, this spectacular bowl is home to a huge variety of animals, including the highest density of predators in Africa. With fantastic game viewing and sensational scenery, this natural wonder is one of Tanzania’s main attractions.
End Your Safari on a Tropical Island
Tanzania benefits from a wonderful stretch of coastline, blessed with white sand beaches, swaying palm trees, historic Swahili ports, thatched villages and magnificent marine life. For those looking to end the thrill and intensity of a safari with some relaxing beach time, the Tanzanian Coast is beautiful, easily accessible and completely unspoiled.
Witness the Great Wildebeest Migration
Often described as “The Greatest Show on Earth”, the annual migration of over a million wildebeest and around 300,000 zebra is a natural phenomenon like no other. Following the rains, the wildebeest and zebra travel in search of lush grass and grazing lands whilst moving in a clockwise rotation up through the Serengeti. They will spend a couple of months in the Masai Mara before heading back to Tanzania in time for calving season – all whilst trying to evade the many predators en route.
