Mama Daktari House Lamu is located in Shela village on Lamu Island, off the north-eastern coast of Kenya. The house offers luxury accommodation for four people. All your needs will be attended to by the staff to ensure a relaxing holiday.

Mama Daktari House Lamu was where the Flying Doctor Anne Spoerry resided from the late 1960s while preparing for her medical expeditions. It has two suites and is connected to Betty’s suite and Garden House. Its master bedroom is the highest point of our property with an outstanding view to the channel.

Mama Daktari House Lamu has two large suites and is fully staffed with a chef, a steward, laundry ladies, a captain, and a manager for your convenience. Your cook is trained to run all errands and prepares all meals for you. You can select your meals from our guideline menu and you will be served in a private dining area. Food is charged at cost and recorded in a book of accounts.

Mama Daktari House Lamu offers a true island feel with a large garden and amazing views of the ocean. We will ensure that you are met at the Manda/Lamu airport by one of our staff members who will escort you to the traditional boat and take you to Shela. From here you will also be escorted to the house.

Lamu Island offers a variety of festivals throughout the year and has many activities to keep you busy. Guests can snorkel on the reefs or swim with the dolphins, enjoy a sunset cruise or simply explore the island. All activities can be arranged through the house manager on your request.
