Ocean Sports Resort; Ocean Sports Resort is situated on Watamu Beach, a Marine Park protected by the Kenya Wildlife Service. Watamu is a small fishing village south of Malindi town on Kenya's North coast. It has about 20 kilometers of beaches, of which 6 are in the Watamu Marine National Park.

Ocean Sports Resort Watamu is 120 Kilometers North of Mombasa and 28 Kilometers South of Malindi. At Gede, which is on the main Mombasa Malindi road, you turn towards the Indian Ocean. 11 Kilometers from the main road is Watamu itself.

The Watamu beach road is about 10kms from North to South where it ends at the mouth of Mida Creek. The name "Watamu" means "sweet people" in Swahili.

The name came from the fact that Arab slave traders used to distribute sweets to entice the local population before taking them as slaves. Ocean Sports Resort in Watamu is a quiet beach resort with some lovely, deserted (or near-deserted) white sandy beaches.

Ocean Sports Resort Ocean Cottage is situated in the Ocean Sports complex with the beach right at your doorstep. You have full use of all that Ocean Sports has to offer, the swimming pool, tennis and squash court and the bar and restaurant. Our team at reception can help you organize activities and outings and you are welcome to use our free Wi-Fi in the bar area.

Ocean Sports Resort Ocean Cottage has 3 double bedrooms, all air-conditioned; one is en-suite and there is an extra large bathroom with shower and bath. It can fit up to 7 people comfortably and is an ideal place to stay if you are a big family or
visiting with friends.

Ocean Sports Resort Ocean Cottage is let on a self catering basis and comes with your own private chef who can prepare all your meals. You can purchase your groceries from the local supermarkets here in Watamu. Alternatively, you can always visit our restaurant.

Ocean Sports Resort operates a disabled friendly policy. All public areas of the hotel have been made easily accessible to wheelchair users. Where required ramps have been installed to ensure that the unique Ocean Sports experience in accessible to all.

Ocean Sports Resort has a stunning restaurant located on the beachfront with views from the outdoor wooden decking that make the dining experience fantastic. The restaurant’s new menu uses seasonal local ingredients and takes full advantage of the brilliant fresh seafood line caught every day.

A wood burning pizza oven is the secret behind the Ocean Sports pizzas, topped with exciting ingredients and hand made to order. The diverse selection of dishes suits even the fussiest, as well as children, and has enticed guests and visitors to come and dine again and again.

Breakfast - On the coast the sun is up and shining by 7am and breakfast is available from then until 9.45. Sunday Lunch - Sunday lunch is served out on the deck, and is incredibly popular with the local community who bring a friendly atmosphere when they come to dine.

Dinner - Dining in the evening under a starry African sky, kissed by a cool breeze on the candlelit decking, creates an experience to be relished. The mood is nostalgic, making dinner for two a romantic affair.

Watamu Snake Park

Watamu Bio – Ken Snake Park is one of the best Snake Parks in Kenya. Residents include black and green Mambas; Cobras; adders and pythons.

A crocodile pit also features a feeding time activity. The Park is located within a 10 minute drive from Ocean Sports Resort and provides an extremely educational, friendly and popular diversion

Squash / Tennis

Ocean Sports Resort has an onsite squash/Tennis court. Balls and racquets are available from the reception, and instructors can be arranged on request

Water Sports

Ocean Sports Resort offers Water Sports such as Deep Sea Fishing, Kite Surfing, Water Skiing, Windsurfing, Boogie / Body boarding, Surfing, Sea Kayaking and Diving

Dolphin Trips
Typically during calm water periods, dolphins can be observed at close quarters just beyond the reef perimeter. Ocean Legend can be utilized for this purpose and in fact, some guests swim amongst these wonderful creatures

Sokoke Forest
Less than 30 minutes drive from Ocean Sports Resort, Arabuko-Sokoke Forest covers an area of 400 square kilometers and is the last large section of indigenous coastal forest left in Kenya. It is a key site for the global survival of six bird and three mammal species, which are under threat due to the destruction and reduction of their natural habitat.

Elephants are one of the greatest attractions in this forest as well as the much smaller and almost extinct Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew.

More than 260 different species of birds have been recorded including the rare Sokoke Scops-owl and the Amani Sunbird. These can be spotted during early morning walks in the forest nestling in the pre-historic looking Sokoke Cycads or from a viewing platform in one of the tree houses.

The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest Guides Association has several expert guides who can accompany visitors on forest walks. They are expert ornithologists and can help visitors to find and view some of the rare and unique birds of the forest.

Gede Ruins
The Gede Ruins are the site of an abandoned 15th century village hidden in the forest. Now a National Museum, the ruins are heavily overgrown with beautiful indigenous forest trees, baobabs and tamarind.

There are no historical records of the village, which included palaces, houses and mosques, and a veil of mystery hangs over its existence. A tree house set high in a giant baobab provides a bird’s-eye view of the whole site.

Bird Watching at Mida Creek
This large mangrove-lined tidal creek offers a wide range of outdoor activities to suit all ages and interests and is only a short drive from Ocean Sports Resort. A national reserve run by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the creek is host to a large population of bird and marine life.

Bird-watching is especially enjoyable from a boat floating on the tide and among the 51 species of birds which live in the creek; visitors are likely to spot Crab Plovers, Sand Pipers, Stints, Turns, Spoonbills and Flamingos.

The mangroves bordering the shoreline have fantastic root systems, which act as protection for young fish making the creek a natural nursery and a wonderful area for casual snorkeling, or goggling as we call it here.

Sudi Island in the centre of the creek is only accessible by boat or dhow and has a quaint wooden boardwalk through the mangroves leading to a white beach complete with shaded picnic tables.

This makes a great spot for lunch or a quick snack especially after water skiing, which is another popular activity on the creek.

There are also dhow trips on the creek, which can be arranged either for a whole day or for sundowners. Day trips will include a picnic lunch while sunset trips include cocktails and canapés. Private trips and functions can also be arranged.

Tsavo National Park Safari

Tsavo National Park Safari can be organized by African Spice Safaris from the Ocean Sports Hotel. Accommodation will be in tented camps and usually for two or three nights.

All the main species of game may be seen in Tsavo; Elephants, Buffalo, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Rhino and many different varieties of antelope. Tsavo is also famous for its prolific bird life.
