Timau
River Lodge is situated on the forested slopes
of Mt Kenya,
a wonderfully offbeat place, consisting of several lovely
thatched cottages of varying sizes and a well-equipped
campsite with a large covered cooking area.
Timau
River Lodge has camping sites as well as bandas for
rent. Several simple bandas built of cedar logs sleeping
2-4 people. Timau

cabins are numbered alphabetically based on animal names.
Campsites located amongst trees at the top of a very
pretty waterfall, where geese and ducks wander around.
River
Timau Lodge is in an idyllic setting with a whole range
of animals roaming free through out – Peacocks,
Ducks, Geese, Tortoises, Guinea Fowls etc. The lodge
is also close to Mount Kenya so guests are able to enjoy
good views.

has a restaurant specializing in Indian cuisine including
Indian curries and vegetarian meals. There is a bar
with fireplace and pool table, electricity is provided
by a generator from kerosene lamps are available at
other times. Local guides can take guests on walks through
the forest and to local villages.
The
lodge
is a base for climbing Mount Kenya through Chogoria
route. The Timau Track, the main access route on the
north side of the mountain lies in a major rain shadow.
Because of this there is a very little forest on this
side of the mountain.
However
since you are inside a low rainfall zone it generally
makes for a drier safari and a more pleasant trek. Timau
River Lodge is at 2240 meters in altitude, so
the evenings can be particularly cool, so you definitely
need to have warm clothing.

offering all-inclusive treks up Mount Kenya on the rarely
used Timau route, the lodge also offers camel treks,
cultural visits nature walks, bird watching, trout fishing
and safaris to Ol Pejeta conservancy (minimum two people).
There is a good chance of seeing Elephants and other
wildlife.
