Dar-es-salaam 1 Day Trips Bagamoyo Historical Tour; Bagamoyo, once the most important trading port on the East African coast, remains a city of history and culture.

See the ruins of Coral Mosque at Kaole and the ancient graves from the 13th century. Discover the Old Ferry on the Wami River as your guide tells you about the town's slave-trade past.

Venture into the city of Bagamoyo, which has played various historical roles in the history of the country. Along the way, your guide explains how it used to serve as a slave and ivory port—relics of this past remain.

The name of the city, Bagamoyo, comes from the Swahili words “bwaga moyo,” meaning “lay down your heart,” a desperate expression by people who were captured as slaves, knowing that they faced uncertain futures.

After a traditional lunch, visit the archeological site of Kaole. Admire its ruins, including the Coral Mosque and the ruins of the Shirazai trade town, dating between the 13th and 17th centuries.

Here you also see 30 ancient tombs built with coral rag and columns. Continue to the Wami River where you pause for a photo stop at the Old Ferry.

Dar-es-salaam 1 Day Tour Bongoyo Island Day Trip takes you to Tanzania's uninhabited island called Bongoyo Island situated 2.5 km north of the country’s largest city, Dar es Salaam.

This abandoned island is a popular destination for those seeking peace, unspoilt nature, sunbathing, swimming beaches and beautiful snorkeling sites.

The island lies close to the Msasani Peninsula and is reachable by means of a 30 minute boat ride from the mainland.

0930 Hours: Our boat departs the mainland and sails to Bongoyo Island. The ride takes about 30 minutes. Usually the boat departs with 4 or more people.

The ride in the morning on the boat ride can get splashy so remember to take some plastic/ waterproof bag to keep your valuables dry. The afternoon boat ride can be a bit choppy.

As soon as you arrive you will place your lunch order. There are a number of seafood items normally available, but be sure to ask which ones are available on that particular day (because typically not everything is available each day).

The beach at Bongoyo island is a good little escape from the city of Dar-es-salaam, and it’s easy to get there. Once you arrive on Bongoyo Island you can relax on the beach, wait for lunch, and hang out.

1300 Hours: Lunch is served. There is a hut for lunch. You can also eat at your Banda (little huts with shade) which has a view of the ocean. Also, you can bring your own food and beverages so you don’t have to purchase anything once you’re on Bongoyo Island.

Weekends can be busy, but if you go on a weekday, the island should be nice and quiet.

Kampala Day Trips Namugongo Martyrs Shrines Tour Kampala Day Trips Namugongo Martyrs Shrines Tour

Kampala Day Trips Namugongo Martyrs Shrines Tour takes you 20 kilometers east of Kampala city to Namugongo shrine and museum – the final execution sites of Uganda martyrs.

This is where more than 20 Catholic and Anglican Martyrs were burnt alive on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga in June 1886. The story of “Uganda martyrs” killed in 1886 is a story of faith, courage and Cruelty.

It’s Uganda and perhaps East Africa’s most important place of Christian pilgrimage. Christians from eastern and central Africa and indeed the world over flock to Namugongo to pay their respects and renew their faith by paying pilgrimage to the martyrs on June 3rd, every year.

The shrine is the place where a total of 32 young Ugandan Christian coverts were martyred on denial to condemn the new religion by then (Christianity) which was out spreading at fast rate in Uganda the pearl of Africa.

This annoyed the Kabaka of Buganda by then King (Kabaka Mwanga II,) and he decided to order his loyalties to execute or murder the 32 young men who refused to denounce their religion.

Kampala Day Trips Namugongo Martyrs Shrines Tour Itinerary

0900 Hours:  After breakfast at your hotel in Kampala, you will be picked up and taken to Namugongo martyr’s shrine. You will be conducted around the place, one for the Protestants and the other for the Catholics.

Each denomination maintains a church there and a service may be conducted while there, or after the service you will be taken around and given the background of the place and its historical and religious importance to the country. You will then be brought back to your hotel.

The Shrine is famous for its splendid as well as unique interior and exterior shape which is eye-catching to various travelers especially those that have spared time to visit the site.

The construction process of the famous Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine was started in the year 1967 and it was completed in the year 1975. The shrine was officially opened by the special Papal envoy, His Eminence Sergio Cardinal Pignedoli on the date of 3rd June 1975.

Pope John Paul II’s six days safari tour to Uganda’s Namugongo on the month of February 7, 1993, it helped to raise the status of the Shrine to level of a minor Basilica.

The big spectacular Shrine covering Namugongo today stands perfectly on the point where the ancient small parish church used to be. It is the very place where Charles Lwanga one of the Martyrs was burnt alive.

The unique lake found in the garden Centre of Namugong is another unique feature which visitors should not miss to explore. The Lake is depiction in memory of the work done by St. Charles Lwanga while still on good terms with the King Mwanga’s palace.

Various pilgrims to Uganda’s Namugongo have often fetched water from this historic lake and some of them have come to testify that the water in the lake heals different diseases.

Days before the long waited 3rd June, you find people of all age, matching from all directions of Uganda heading to the shrine. The long waited day is filled with several events like prayers, baptism, plays and lots of eats and drinks.

The views are spectacular and there are a multitude of bird species, monkeys galore, and if you are really lucky some of the more elusive animals, like mongoose and antelope.

Horseback riding short safaris for 1 hour, 1.5 hours, 2 hours and 3 hour rides. The rides are available everyday from 1000 Hours in the morning and 1400 Hours in the afternoon. Bookings are essential as we have limited horses and guides.

All trips are accompanied by two or more guides. Helmets are supplied; please bring your own helmet if you want to ensure that you have perfectly fitted head protection. (Bike riding or kayaking helmets are ideal).

For your safety, we ask that you wear closed shoes (boots or trainers), preferably with a heel. For your comfort you need to wear long pants, (jeans etc) to stop stirrup leather rubs.

Kampala 1 Day Trip Ssese Island Boat Cruise Kampala 1 Day Trip Ssese Island Boat Cruise

Kampala 1 Day Trip Ssese Island Boat Cruise offers guests time off from the hassle and bustle of Kampala city in Uganda to explore Lake Victoria Ssese Islands.

Ssese Islands consist of 84 Islands in the northwestern part of Lake Victoria in Uganda. We offer boat excursions to various places on the 84-forested Ssese Islands.

They are largely uninhabited and provide a relaxing environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city – only 70 minutes by speedboat from the mainland!

The 84 lush equatorial Ssese Islands form worlds of their own on Lake Victoria. Forests teeming with wildlife, delightful empty beaches, friendly islanders.

The peaceful environment provide a unique and fascinating opportunity for fishing, walking, boating, birdwatching or simply enjoying beautiful and unspoilt surroundings.

Here, you’ll be able to see vervet monkeys and grey parrots by the forest waterfalls, kingfishers, herons and fish eagles diving for their food in the lake.

The Ssese Islands are a perfect getaway for travelers wishing to visit somewhere a little more rustic and “off the beaten path” then the usual safari parks.

There are many islands to choose from, but Baggala Island is the most frequented by tourists, perhaps because it is the most accessible and most developed. However, the small Banda Island also provides a popular budget resort worth visiting.

Depending on your interests, you may also choose to explore Bubeke Island, Bukasa Island or Bufumira Island.

Kampala 1 Day Trip Ssese Island Boat Cruise Activities

Volleyball: Some resorts provide beach volleyball. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Sport fishing: Fishing is a prominent activity in the Ssese Island area. We offer a boat with equipment and guide

Boat trips: We'll get a boat to take you out on the water. You will enjoy viewing the islands from a different perspective

Cycling Excursions: Cycling is an excellent way to explore Baggala Island. Provide one from Andronica Lodge. Cycling to Mutumbula beach is especially lovely

Island Exploration: The marshy southwestern shores are home to a few hippos and sitatunga antelopes. These swamps can be reached by walking, cycling, or by vehicle.
