Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Machame Route 7 Day Hike: The most popular route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Of the seven main routes used to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the Machame route is the most popular path.
It is the route of choice for many people because it provides impressive views and a variety of habitats. About 50% of all climbers, and most seasoned climbers, choose the Machame route.
The Machame route is also known as the Whiskey route, given its reputation for being a tough climb, in contrast to the easier Marangu route, which is known as the Coca Cola route.
Unlike the gradual incline and hut accommodations found on the Marangu Route, the climbers on Machame hike steeper trails, for longer distances, while sleeping in tents.

Climb Mount Kilimanjaro 7 Days Lemosho Route Hike; Kilimanjaro’s Lemosho Route starts below the Shira Route, allowing trekkers to more easily acclimatize before it crosses the Shira Plateau and then joins up with the Machame Route.
The Lemosho Route begins from the west side of Mount Kilimanjaro, running just below the Shira Route.
Starting much lower than Shira, climbers are able to gradually increase altitude and greatly reduce their chances of experiencing altitude related symptoms from the start.
Although Lemosho is becoming more popular due to its very high success rate, it still has slightly less foot-traffic than other routes.
It eventually meets up with the Shira Route at Shira Camp 2. Unlike the huts of the Marangu Route, you will sleep in tents, which will be transported by your porters.
Meals are served in a dinner tent or on a blanket outside (weather permitting). If you wish to add an extra day, it is best spent exploring around the Barranco Camp, where you will spend a 2nd night.
This allows for more effective acclimatization and results in a higher success rate.

Climbing Kilimanjaro 6 Days Lemosho Route Hike; The Lemosho Route is the most scenic and most beautiful Kilimanjaro route, from the first day to the last.
It is widely considered to be the best route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Not too long ago, there were only two main routes used to climb Kilimanjaro – the Marangu (Coca Cola) route and the Machame (Whiskey) route.
But as Tanzania's tourism industry flourished, the Kilimanjaro park authority created more trails to African's highest peak. Lemosho, a relatively new route, is preferred by reputable operators due to its beauty, remoteness and success rate.
In short, it maximizes the chances that a climber will reach the summit, and enjoy the experience overall. The trail begins north of Shira, also on the western side of the mountain.
But unlike the Shira Route where for the first day you walk on a wide 4 WD road, Lemosho is a narrow wilderness trail right from the beginning.
It passing through pristine and remote rainforest with good chances of seeing wildlife. It then crosses the Shira Plateau before joining the Machame Route near the Lava Tower.

|
Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing 6 Days Shira Route Hike | Climbing Kilimanjaro Shira Route | Shira Route Kilimanjaro Trek |
Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing 6 Days Shira Route Hike; The Shira route is a path that approaches Kilimanjaro from the west, and is nearly identical to the Lemosho route.
In fact, Shira was the original route and Lemosho is the improved variation.
While Lemosho starts at Londorossi Gate and treks through the rain forest to Shira 1 Camp, the Shira route bypasses this walk by using a vehicle to transport climbers to Shira Gate, located near the Shira Ridge.
On the first day on the mountain, climbers begin their hike from 11,800 feet (3,600 meters) and spend their first night at the same elevation at Simba Camp.
Then, the route merges with Lemosho at Shira 2 and follows the southern circuit route, traversing beneath the Southern Ice fields before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made on the Mweka route.
Although Shira is a varied and beautiful route, Lemosho is recommended over Shira due to the high altitude of Shira's starting point.
It is possible that climbers will experience altitude related symptoms on the first day due to failed acclimatization. Climbers using Shira should be confident of their ability to acclimatize

6 Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb Machame Route Hike; Machame Route is known as the "Whiskey" Route.
Tents are included in the price and meals are served in a dinner tent or on a blanket outside. It is done over 6 days, so acclimatization is easier, and the success rate is fairly high. It is for physically fit people with some hiking experience.
Descent is down the Mweka trail staying at the Mweka or Millennium camp the final night on the mountain.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro 6 Days Marangu Route Hike | Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu Route 6 Day Itinerary | 6 Days Kilimanjaro Hike |

|
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro 6 Days Marangu Route Hike; The Marangu route is one of the most popular routes to the summit of Kilimanjaro.
This could partly be as a result of the fact that the Marangu is the least expensive route, but more so, perhaps the fact that it is possible to do the Marangu route in 5 days, thereby getting to the summit one day earlier compared to the Machame route.
This is not always the best way, due to a shorter acclimatization period. The Marangu route does however offer you the option of spending an extra acclimatization day on the mountain.
This extends the route into a 6-day trek, greatly increasing your chances of success. Shared hut accommodation on the Marangu route forms one of the main differences, compared to the other routes.
It offers you the relative luxury of being able to sleep in huts along the entire route. Mineral water, soft drinks, chocolates and beers are also sold at all the camps on this route.
All your equipment and supplies are pottered and a cook prepares all your meals. Marangu is ideal for those who are not confident in their ability to hike over steeper paths.
It’s also attractive for those who do not want to sleep in a tent. Marangu is for those who want to spend less on their climb, and do not mind crowds.

6 Days Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route
6 Days Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route
|
|
6 Days Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route | Kilimanjaro Climbing Umbwe Route 6 Day Trek |
6 Days Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route; Mount Kilimanjaro Umbwe route is one of the shortest routes to the Southern Glaciers and the Western Breach.
It is probably the most scenic, non-technical route on Kilimanjaro. It is quite taxing, primarily due to the relatively fast ascent to higher altitude, but the rewards are plentiful.
Fewer people, pristine forest and shorter walking distances make it a great option for fit hikers. The Umbwe route is known for its caves.
The first night you actually sleep at the Umbwe Cave Camp with two more caves that can be visited en route the following day.
Because of the high risks involved with sleeping at Arrow Glacier camp and summiting via the Western Breach, all our Umbwe route hikes are re-routed, to join with the Machame route from night 2 on the mountain.
On special request we can assist with Umbwe route hikes attempting to summit using the Western Breach/ Arrow Glacier path and overnight at the Crater camp.

Commence the climb through the rain forest with packed lunch on route. The air is thick with moisture and the path is usually muddy.
The route initially follows a forestry track winding up through the natural rain forest. It then narrows and steepens to climb the ridge between the Lonzo and Umbwe rivers, with huge trees surrounding you.
The path offers some spectacular views of deep gorges and if you are lucky, glimpses of Kilimanjaro towering above you in the distance. The camp is perched between huge trees and thick undergrowth

The path flattens as you approach Barranco Valley. From the Umbwe ridge the route descends slightly to the Barranco camp.

Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing 5 Days Hike Tanzania | Marangu Kilimanjaro Climb Route 5 Days 4 Nights | Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro |
Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing 5 Days Hike Tanzania; The Marangu route is one of the most popular routes to the summit of Kilimanjaro.
The main itinerary difference between the Marangu 5 day and 6 day routes is the additional acclimatization day at Horombo Hut.
Day 1: Drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Marangu Gate (1860 Meters/ 6100 Feet), Hike to Mandara Hut (2700 Meters/ 8875 Feet)
After breakfast and briefing, drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (about 1 hour), register and commence the climb. Walk through the rainforest to the Mandara encampment.
A side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colobus monkeys.
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours and the Distance covered is 8 Kilometers/ 5 Miles through Montane Forest.
Overnight at Mandara Hut
Meal Plan: {Lunch and Dinner}
Day 2 : Hike Mandara Hut (2700 Meters/ 8875 Feet) to Horombo Hut (3700 Meters/ 12,200 Feet)
You leave the glades of the rainforest and follow an ascending path on the open moorlands to the Horombo encampment.
Views of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo are amazing. Look for giant lobelias and grounsels. You may begin to feel the effects of the altitude.
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours and the Distance covered is 12 Kilometers/ 7.5 Miles through Heathland.
Overnight at Horombo Hut
Meal Plan: {Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner}
Day 3: Hike Horombo Hut (3700 Meters/12,200 Feet) to Kibo Hut (4700 Meters/ 15,500 Feet)
Ascending, we now pass the last watering point, walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi.
Vegetation begins with upper heathland but then disappears into "moonscape". Dinner, rest, and prepare for summit climb.
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours and the Distance covered is 9 Kilometers/ 5.5 Miles through Alpine Desert.
Overnight at Kibo Hut
Meal Plan: {Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner}
Day 4 : Hike Kibo Hut (4700 Meters/ 15,500 Feet) to Summit, and down to Horombo Hut (3700 Meters/ 12,200 Feet)
Very early in the morning (midnight to 0200 Hours), commence the climb to the summit on steep and heavy scree or snow up to Gilman's point located on the crater rim.
Continuing, we now ascend to Uhuru Peak, (5895 Meters/ 19,340 Feet) which is the highest point in Africa. There are unbelievable views at every turn.
Have your picture taken at the summit to show your friends and family. From here we descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo encampment.
The beginning of this climb is done in the dark and requires headlamps or flashlights. It will be very cold until you start descending, so you will need all of your warm layers.
This is by far the most difficult part of the trek with many switchbacks. Going slowly "pole pole" and an optimistic attitude will get you there!
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours and the Distance covered is 6 Kilometers/ 4 Miles up and 15 Kilometers/ 9 Miles down through Alpine Desert.
Overnight at Horombo Camp
Meal Plan: {Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner}

The Marangu Route is also known as the "Coca Cola" or "tourist" route. It is the easiest and shortest route to the summit.
This is also the only route with the comforts of sleeping huts at every camp site with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are communal, and the bunks have a sponge mattress and pillow.
There are 60 beds at both Mandara and Kibo huts and 120 beds at Horombo hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts.
Mens' and ladies' latrines are available at the last camp but are very basic. All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere.
Soft drinks, bottled water, and beer may be for sale at the huts. Bring small Tanzanian bills to purchase these items (prices increase with elevation).
This route is usually done in 5 days but can be done in 6 days for better acclimatization. The extra day can be spent resting at Horombo or climbing the small peak of Mawenzi.
