Zanzibar local Style Game Fishing Tour offers you the unique opportunity to learn the traditional fishing methods. Sail out to sea with a Zanzibar fisherman who will show you what ‘fishing for a living’ is really all about.

Forget fishing in a modern fishing vessel with the latest in reels and rods and a fighting chair as well!

Local fishing in Ngalawa (traditional boats or the typical boat used by local fishermen) takes you beyond the reef to deeper waters where you will be surrounded by shoals of different species of fish.

The fishing grounds we go to are just about one hour out. We will equip you with simple fishing gear – a roll of nylon fishing line were the end of each line has a weight and two hooks. On the hooks are speared strips of fresh calamari.

All you do is just to lower the lines in until you hit the bottom and wait. Then you haul the line up at the side of the boat. This is what the local fishermen or boatmen use to catch kingfish, yellow fin tuna, barracuda and grouper. A real adventure!

To hook the kind of substantial fish for sale in Stone Town’s markets, you go out at night and fish by the light of a lamp. That is when bigger fish come out in numbers around the fishing grounds.

You will go for reef fishing for small fish with local fishing material and try your luck with the local fishing materials. Discover how the most locals catch fish. If you like you can also take your own fishing rods.

The fishermen will take you back to the beach or sandbank and grill up the catch of the day! This not only provides an authentic experience but also provides locals with a source of extra income.

On returning to Zanzibar Island we will take you to see the colorful and bustling fish market where the fresh catches of the day are auctioned.

It covers 16 hectors of undisturbed forest and surrounded by a virgin coral reef, the sanctuary has more than 200 a pieces of pristine stone corals, about 400 species of fish and turtles & dolphins regularly passing by.

Chumbe Island Coral Park is a private nature reserve created to protect the coral reef sanctuary and forest reserve that harbors extremely rare and endangered animals.

There are no people living in this tiny island but there is a visitor Education centre, a small eco-lodge, nature trails and historical ruins.

Zanzibar Chumbe Island Coral Park Day Trip activities are all guided by resident guides and most focus on the island's ecology.

Escorted forest walks look at the island's geology, flora and fauna – including endangered giant coconut crabs.

On Chumbe's beaches, walks explore the rich inter-tidal zone, and then further into the sea, guides who know the reefs around the island lead snorkeling trips (scuba-diving is prohibited).

The reefs around Chumbe are one of the most impressive coral gardens off the coast of Africa; they contain over 400 species of fish and 200 species of hard coral. Day trips are possible to the Chumbe Island Coral Park.

However, as a Marine Protected Area (MPA) the Island carefully manages the numbers of guests on the island at any one time (maximum 14).

As the facilities are primarily focused towards eco-lodge guests, The tour can only confirm day trip bookings when there is availability in the lodge. This means that there are no advance bookings for day trips.

A trip to the site of Sultan Barghash's harem at Marahubi should also be included and rounds off an insight into Zanzibar's huge history and vibrant culture.

Zanzibar Stone Town Walking Tour Half Day Trip Places of Interest

    The Old Dispensary
The Old Dispensary (now known as the Stone Town Cultural Centre) is a grand four story building with a set of decorative balconies. It served as a dispensary during colonial times but fell into disrepair in the 1970's and 1980's.

It is one of the Stone Town buildings that has been successfully restored, in this case with funding from the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. It can be found on Zanzibar's seafront on Mizingani road.

    The market
The market is a great place to visit even if you don't want to buy anything. It is a vibrant place where everything under the sun is bought and sold. People bring their produce here from all over the island, and other people come to buy things they can't get in their own villages

Of special interest is the huge selection of brightly colored khangas (worn by the local women) and the auctions that are held regularly.

    Livingston's' House
Livingston's' House was built around 1860 for Sultan Majid, and was used by many of the missionaries and explorers as a starting point. Most notably, Dr David Livingston's lived here before commencing his last journey to the mainland interior.

    The Peace Memorial Museum
The Peace Memorial Museum is an interesting look at Zanzibar's history. It has sections on archaeology, early trade, slavery, palaces, mosques, sultans, explorers (includes Dr Livingston's' medical chest), missionaries, colonial administrators, traditional crafts and household items, stamps, coins, fishing, and clove cultivation.

    The Palace Museum
The Palace Museum is a large white building with castellated battlements, and was built in the late 1890's for members of the Sultan's family.

Originally called the Sultan's Palace, in 1911 it became the official residence of the Sultan of Zanzibar, but following the revolution in 1964, it was renamed the Peoples' Palace.

In 1994, the palace was turned into a museum dedicated to the history of Zanzibar's Sultans which necessitated a third change of name to the Palace Museum. For the first time, visitors can see much of the Sultans' furniture and other possessions that survived the revolution.

    The House of Wonders
The House of Wonders is a very large square-shaped building, with several stories, surrounded by tiers of pillars and balconies, and topped by a large clock tower.

It was built in 1883 as a ceremonial palace for Sultan Barghash and was the first in Zanzibar to have electric light and an electric lift.

Not surprisingly, when it was built, the local people called it Beit el Ajaib, meaning the House of Wonders. Today, it is still one of the largest buildings in Zanzibar, and there are plans to open it as the National Museum.

    The Arab Fort
The Arab Fort is situated next to the House of Wonders and was built between 1698 and 1701 by the Busaidi group of Omani Arabs. It is a large building with high, dark brown walls topped by castellated battlements. The fort is open to visitors and now contains various shops and an open air theatre.

Horseback Riding Lake Naivasha Day Tour Sanctuary Farm is one of our most popular day tours from Nairobi. The highlights of the excursion includes horse riding amongst wildlife and beautiful landscape.

A day tour on horseback at Sanctuary Farm in Naivasha is a unique and incredible experience because you are able to get so close to the animals. Sanctuary Farm is a 500 acre dairy farm on the shores of Lake Naivasha which belongs to Francis Erskine who also breeds and trains race horses.

The Sanctuary farm is carpeted in Acacia trees and leads down to Lake Naivasha. There is an abundance of wildlife including giraffe, wildebeest, impala, zebra, gazelle, dik dik, hippo and buffalo as well as an extraordinarily concentrated variety of birdlife.

The Farm borders Lake Naivasha and offers horse riding, cycling, bird watching and wonderful walks in among zebra, wildebeest and even giraffe. Our horse-riding day safari is suitable for experienced riders or those with minimal or no horse-riding experience.

The guides and horses are well trained, and you will receive a brief training before your ride on the basics of controlling your horse. Basically, you will only go at a pace that you feel comfortable.

You will encounter wildlife on this safari, however the horses live and interact with this game daily and are not scared by close up riding. There are no predators in the areas where you will ride.

All horse safaris are accompanied by two or more guides, so riders within groups have the opportunity to temporarily separate, allowing more experienced riders to ride at a more advanced pace and those not so confident to stay within their comfort zone.

Mandatory safety helmets are provided for each rider. All horses have saddlebags, ideal for storing camera, wallets, sunscreen and water etc while out riding.
