|
Malindi Full Day Tour to Robinson Island and Marafa Hell’s Kitchen is a 1 day Malindi tour package that combine 2 popular attractions in Malindi.
The morning is spent at Robinson Island while the afternoon is spent at Hell's Kitchen/ Marafa Depression. Robinson Island is located about 35 km's from Malindi about an hour’s drive.
0830 Hours: The trip to Robinson Island departs Malindi after breakfast at your hotel. The drive takes the Lamu road all the way to the mouth of the Sabaki River. Here we make a brief stop to observe the hippos and flocks of flamingos.
You the then proceed driving past little villages and along Indian Ocean sandy silver beaches to Ngomeni Salt Flats where most of Africa's salt comes from.
After a 15 minutes drive from the turn off from the salt flats you leave your car and board a dugout canoe sailing through a lagoon surrounded by mangroves and palm trees and arrive at Robinson Island.
The charming Robinson Island restaurant is made entirely with mangrove roots, Makuti roof and white sand floor. It has large tables, big cushioned seating areas and has no electricity.
Remember if you want a beer or wine bring your own as the restaurant has no license to sell alcohol.
1300 Hours: Lunch is served at the Robinson Island restaurant. The restaurant serves only seafood – a typical Swahili meal.
The food is to die for with fresh crab, straight from the sea as big as dinner plates then followed by huge prawns, rice, barbecued fish, fruit and tea all served on a on a table adorned with colorful bougainvillea and frangipani flowers.
1400 Hours: After lunch, you have some time to rest on the comfortable sofas, sunbathe on pristine white sand or swim in the warm crystal clear water of the Ocean.
1530 Hours: Depart Robinson Island Beach-Chalet and drive through the countryside villages to Marafa Hell's kitchen.
1630 Hours: We arrive at Marafa Hell's Kitchen. The Marafa Depression, also known as Hell’s Kitchen, is an odd sandstone canyon outside of Malindi, Kenya.
Known locally as Nyari – “the place broken by itself” – it was once a great sandstone ridge worn by wind, rain, and floods into a series of jagged gorges.
The layer-cake colors of the sandstone reveal whites, pinks, oranges, and deep crimsons, making the gorge particularly striking at sundown, when tones of the ribbed sandstone gullies are highlighted and mirrored by those of the setting sun.
1900 Hours: Shortly before sunset, return to the hotel.

Uganda Balloon Safari | Hot air balloon safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda | Hot Air Balloon Safaris Uganda |
|
|
|
|
Hot Air Balloon Safaris Uganda ballooning adventure begins early in the morning when you leave your camp or lodge to get to the meeting point at the Kasenyi gate of Queen Elizabeth National Park at 0530 hours.
This early drive in the dark offers you a chance to see nocturnal animals that live in and around the park.
0530 Hours: On arrival to the Kasenyi gate of Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will follow the ground crew to the site that has been chosen for lift off. The specific location changes daily based on current wind and weather conditions.
When you arrive at the lounging site, you will meet your pilot and be given a safety briefing and instructions for boarding the balloon as well as landing procedures.
As the ground crew unpack the balloon, passengers can sip on a steaming cup of coffee or tea and watch the cold inflation of the balloon. This is done using two large petrol powered fans that fill the balloon with cold air.
0630 Hours: Once the balloon is mostly inflated but still lying on its side, the ground, the crew will invite you inside the balloon. It is overwhelming how large it is.
The 16 passenger balloon has a capacity of 300,000 cubic feet. Inside, you will learn about the ropes that are used by the pilot to control the balloon Toast upon landing during flight.
When the balloon is mostly inflated with cold air, the pilot enters the basket while it is still lying its side and begins to further inflate the balloon with hot air.
With the addition of the hot air, the balloon slowly begins to rise in the air and uprights itself. When the balloon is completely vertical, it is time for passengers to climb into the basket and prepare for lift off.
For approximately an hour, you will float over the savannah of Queen Elizabeth NP. The pilot will fly at varying altitudes during your flight to give you different perspectives, taking advantage of the wind currents at the varying altitudes.
No two flights are the same ensuring that your experience is truly unique. The flight gives passengers great photo opportunities that are different from an ordinary safari on the ground.
As you gently drift over the park, you can watch the sun rise as savannah below come to life with birds and animals. Kasenyi is where our balloon flights take place.
Lift off just before sunrise and drift over the Euphorbia trees and thickets in search of lion, leopard, elephant, kob and other antelope while having panoramic views of Lake George and the Rwenzori Mountains.
0745 Hours: After landing, in keeping with an old ballooning tradition, the pilot and passengers celebrate the flight with a glass of sparkling wine. After the toast, passengers sit down to a delectable bush breakfast prepared by Mweya Safari Lodge.
0800 Hours: The bush breakfast makes for a memorable ending to your ballooning adventure in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
0900 Hours: After breakfast, at about 9AM, you will have a game drive back to your camp or lodge.

Mida Creek Reserve Malindi Day Tour: spend a few hours exploring Mida Creek and enjoy a relaxed guided tour and canoe ride through the mangrove swamps where you can view a magnificent array of birds and animals.
The lagoon of Mida Creek is located about 15 kilometers off Watamu, and 30 km from Malindi. Mida is bordered by the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, the largest East African forest by thecoast, and a beautiful rich mangrove coast. The people here are the Giriama tribe.
Mida Creek is an excellent bird watching area. Traditional dugout canoes, Arabic dhows and Western motorboats are all used for bird viewing, water skiing and relaxing boat cruises on Mida Creek.
Mida Creek, East Africa's largest mangrove creek is one of the most productive mangrove ecosystems on earth. The mangrove roots provide a rich source of nutrients for the fish, crabs, shrimp and oysters found in this area.
These fish and crustaceans then provide the food for Mida's famous bird population and the local villages, completing the food chain.
It is a key stop-over and non-breeding site for migrating birds from Europe, Asia and the Middle East to eastern and southern Africa and therefore provides a wonderful place for bird spotting.
