Nanyuki Safaris Samburu National Reserve Full Day Excursion is a 1 day wildlife holiday to Samburu National Reserve in Samburu Country. This one day safari departs from Mount Kenya region which include towns such as Timau, Nanyuki, Naru Moru, Meru, Nyeri, Mweiga, Nyahururu and Laikipia.
Samburu National Reserve is located only 140 km from Nanyuki and makes a great 1 day wildlife escape from Mt Kenya region. Samburu Game Park is a rugged and semi-desert park located in Samburu district in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya.
The local populations of the neighboring communities are of the Rendille, Borana and the Samburu tribe, a descendent clan of the Masai. Cattle, as well as sheep, goats and camels, are of utmost importance to the Samburu culture and way of life.
The Samburu paint their faces using striking patterns to accentuate their facial features & neighboring tribes, admiring the beauty of the Samburu people, called them “Samburu” which means "butterfly"
Samburu National Reserve is relatively small in size compared to other Kenyan parks measuring approximately 104 square km (approximately. 65 square miles). The climate in Samburu is hot and dry during the day, and cool during nights and evenings.
Average maximum temperatures are around 30°C (85°F) with minimum tempertures of approximately 20°C. Samburu was where George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness and wrote the famous best selling book and movie “Born Free”.
The Uaso Nyiro River cuts through this reserve, drawing a big population of wildlife to the park. Wildlife in the park includes the Nile crocodile, the long necked gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa onyx, leopard, cheetahs, lion, elephant, buffalo, impalas, hippos, and dik-diks.
Birdlife is as plentiful as wildlife at Samburu National Reserve, which boasts over 350 different species of birds including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and others.

0630 Hours: After breakfast at your hotel/ residence we depart by road for a 3 hour drive to Samburu Game Reserve. Our drive takes us through Isiolo to Samburu Game Reserve. This day you will enjoy panoramic views of Mt Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya.
0930 Hours: Arrive in samburu national reserve and proceed on a game drive after clearance at the main gate.
The Samburu Game Reserve is reach in wildlife. These include rarities such as the blue-leered Somali Ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra, unicorn like beisa oryxes, flocks of vulturine, marshal and helmeted eagles, reticulated giraffes and the gerenuk, a gazelle with an exceptionally long neck.
The Laikipia-Samburu-Marsabit ecosystems has a huge poplation of over 7,000 elephants.
Large predators such as the Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are an important attraction (Kamunyak the Miracle Lioness that adapted the baby Oryx is a resident in the reserve). Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area.
Birdlife is abundant with over 450 species recorded. Birds of the arid northern bush country are augmented by a number of riverine forest species. Lesser Kestrel and the Taita Falcon are species of global conservation concern and they both utilize the reserve.
Five species categorized as vulnerable have recorded in the reserve. These are African Darter, Great Egret, White-headed Vulture, Martial Eagle and the Yellow-billed Ox-pecker.
1300 Hours: After traversing through the park, enjoy your box lunch at a scenic picnic site. After lunch proceed for another game drive and/ or visit the Samburu tribesmen who are willing to share their rich culture with guests.
1600 Hours: depart for your return journey back.
1900 Hours: Drop at your hotel/ residence.

Nairobi Full Day Hiking Tour Mount Kipipiri is a full day forest hiking trip from Nairobi to Mount Kipipiri Forest Reserve located on the North West slopes of Aberdare ranges in Nyandarua County, near Aberdare National Park.
Mount Kipipiri stands at a height of 10,990 feet (3,349 meters) and is located 130 km from Nairobi. It is about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Lake Naivasha, which is visible from the summit.
The name of the mountain means "butterfly" in the kikuyu language, a reference to its profile from a distance. Considered as a moderate to difficult climb, the trek is mostly a gentle climb on forest trails to the summit, with a short steep descent beyond.
The climb to the summit takes approximate 5 hours while the descent will take you 3 to 4 hours depending on your energy levels. The hiking distance is approximately 21 km. It is generally an easy but long hike.
The drive to Mt Kipipiri from Nairobi takes about 3 hours (Nairobi-Nakuru highway to Njabini town, then on to Ndunyu Njeru market and to Geta Forest Station, Mt Kipipiri where the hike begins. The trek ends at Miharati centre.
Our full day hiking tour includes a guide and an armed ranger because of the wild animals that live inside the forest reserve which include Colobus monkeys, Sykes monkeys, elephants, buffalo and abundant birdlife).
Mount Kipipiri Forest Reserve is under the care of Kenya Forest Service (KFS). An electric fence has been installed around it, preserving a substantial part of its indigenous forests for posterity.

Nairobi Full Day Hiking Tour Mount Kipipiri Itinerary |
0530 Hours: Depart from your residence in Nairobi for Mount Kipipiri Forest Reserve located in Miharati – a location in Kipipiri Division, Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County
0830 Hours: Arrive at Geta Forest Station; Mt Kipipiri on the southeastern end of the mountain and shortly after some stretches from our instructor the hike begins. Lungs feeling good, challenge yourself with a five-hour hike to the top of Mount Kipipiri.
The complete hike takes 8 to 9 hours to Miharati on the northwestern end, after a gentle climb from Geta Forest Station at 2500m above sea level (asl), to 3345m asl at its summit, then back down to 2430m.
The first sections of the trail are tracks used by tractors harvesting trees from plantations on the lower slopes. These soon peter out to be replaced by animal trails on open meadows with the occasional river crossings.
1100 Hours: Two hours into the hike, the forest changes from the exotic to indigenous trees with lots of undergrowth. The meadows turn to expansive beds of colorful wild flowers, with views of the valleys below dotted with houses, fences and farms appearing from various vantage points.
In some places, the trail ducks under the forest canopy, only to emerge again shortly.
Interestingly, you’ll also encounter local game that happens to be cattle (mostly bulls) driven into the bountiful forest by the neighboring community and left there for years to fend for themselves, until they are old enough for slaughter.
The owners apparently pop into the forest occasionally to supply the stock with salts and administer vaccinations.
A brief pause at a rocky patch halfway to the summit affords you excellent views of the valleys to the east and south, and the slopes of the Aberdares Range. The rest of the way to the summit is undulating, with some drops into small valleys, followed by gentle climbs.
As you get closer, you’ll encounter some marshy sections dotted with clumps of tussock grass that offer convenient stepping points to avoid the soggy ground.
Once past these hurdles, you’ll notice the conspicuously large rock that is Mt Kipipiri summit.
Getting up there is an easy short climb, rewarded with the fantastic, previously unseen panoramas north and west of the mountain. The shimmering Lake Ol Bolosat is clearly visible to the north, while Lake Naivasha can be seen to the west.
1300 Hours: Enjoy your packed lunch at the peak as you view the scenic surroundings
1400 Hours: After lunch we take the descent which is a short steep affair through some forested areas, eventually breaking out onto farmlands after crossing the Electric fence.
1700 Hours: Miharati centre is on the Njabini – Ol Kalou tarmac road, a short walk from the forest edge. At Miharati centre, we get our transport back to Nairobi.
2030 Hours: Arrive back to your residence or hotel in Nairobi.

Day 1: Nairobi City Hotel – Fly to Samburu National Reserve
You are met at your Nairobi hotel. Drive to Wilson airport where you will check in for your flight to Samburu National Reserve.
Upon arrival at the Samburu National Reserve, your camp/lodge guides will be there to meet you and drive you to Samburu Sopa Lodge for lunch.
After lunch, explore the Samburu National Reserve located within the lands of the colorful Samburu people, close relatives of the Masai, and which harbors a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in any numbers.
These include Grevy zebra, the reticulated giraffe and the Beisa oryx all species found only north of the equator.

Day 2: Explore Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, a full day of morning and afternoon game drives are planned for African Spice Safaris guests in the Samburu National Reserve.
Your guide will display and explain the majesties of the reserve such as Ewaso Nyiro River which rises some hundreds of kilometers to the west on the foothills of the Aberdares and which vanishes beyond Samburu in the recesses of the Lorian Swamp.
Animals commonly seen in Samburu National Reserve include elephants, lions, cheetahs, gerenuks, buffalos, grants gazelles, dikdiks and waterbucks. There are over 350 varieties of birds.
These include the famous Somali Ostriches (distinguished by their unique purple/blue legs during mating season), kingfishers, humming birds, eagles, guinea fowls and vultures.

Day 1: Nairobi Fly to Samburu Game Reserve
Transfer from your hotel to Wilson Airport and depart on board an Air Kenya flight departing at 0800 hours to arrive in Samburu Game Reserve at 0900 hours.
Upon arrival you will met and transferred to Samburu Game Lodge. After lunch an afternoon game drive is planned today.
Dinner and overnight at Samburu Game Lodge
Day 2: Explore Samburu Game Reserve
Today you will enjoy two extended game drive in Samburu National Reserve one in the morning and the other late in the afternoon.
In between game drives you have several options to participate which include a nature and bird walk guided by the lodge naturalist, camel riding and visits to the Samburu tribal villages.
All meals and overnight at Samburu Game Lodge
Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve Fly to Nairobi
Another morning game drive in the Park then return to the lodge for a full English breakfast. Checkout of Samburu Game Lodge and transfer to the airstrip to catch your flight back to Nairobi departing at 1050 Hours.
Arrive Nairobi at 12:15 Hours. Transfer you to your hotel or to the International Airport for onward flight back home.

The Lodge is 314 km's from Nairobi, a 45 minute flight from Nairobi to Shaba or Samburu airstrip.
Sarova Shaba Game Lodge is set along the bank of the Uaso Nyiro River laid out around the natural springs that flow into the river.
The Lodge has a virtual mini forest of indigenous trees, a fish pond and a large free form swimming pool. The Lodge has a presidential suite, 4 executive suites, 10 deluxe and 80 standard rooms, all with en suite bathrooms.
Sarova Shaba Game Lodge rooms are chalet style, on two storey thatched roof wooden structures.
In addition there is the Main Restaurant, Bar and numerous bush and alfresco dining options. The free form swimming pool has its own Pool Bar.
