Lamu Island 1 Day Tour Manda Toto Reef Snorkeling Trip Lamu Island 1 Day Tour Manda Toto Reef Snorkeling Trip

Lamu Island 1 Day Tour Manda Toto Reef Snorkeling Trip is one of the best things to do while in Lamu – snorkeling and swimming with 'Africa's friendliest dolphins' on the reefs of Manda Toto and Kinyika – the two famous reefs around Lamu.

Kiniyka Island is located 30 minutes south – east of Lamu and Manda Toto Island is located 40 minutes north of Manda Island. They are the two most highly recommended sites for Snorkeling.

Manda Toto is a small, unspoilt, natural dream island just off Manda, which is one of the three main islands of the Lamu archipelago. The journey by boat to this desert island takes about 30 minutes.

Apart from the boat crew who bring you to the small, paradise island of Manda Toto, you will not see anybody else here.

The coral reef between Manda Bay and Manda Toto is the best snorkelling spot on the entire Lamu archipelago, but you should watch out for the occasional strong currents.

There are numerous kinds of fish, sea turtles and dolphins to be found here. If you are very lucky, you might even see the impressive whale shark.

Lamu Island 1 Day Tour Manda Toto Reef Snorkeling Trip Itinerary

0800 Hours: This day trip begins by heading to Manda Toto reef by motor boat for some snorkeling to see puffers, clown fish, the remaining coral and if we are lucky a turtle.

1230 Hours: Later we move on to the beach for a fish barbeque lunch. A picnic lunch is included on an isolated beach.

1400 Hours: In the afternoon the trip heads to Gordon Reef for some more snorkeling before going back to Kijani.

Most Captains prefer Manda toto because the reef is within the Manda – Pate channel which makes the sea calm with just small waves.

To Kinyika the trip is long and relies on wind and water visibility. Also you may be opt to leave earlier than scheduled so that you can get to the reef during low tides.

Snorkel on the coral reefs off Manda Toto island and discover an astounding array of exotic marine wildlife.

Lamu Island Day Tours; Lamu Island is located on the Indian Ocean along the northern coast of Kenya.  Lamu is the most-visited area of the archipelago of islands, which lie between Lamu in the south and Kiunga in the north.

The largest of the islands are Pate Island, Manda Island and Lamu Island. The smaller islands include Kiwayu and Manda Toto. Today the largest town in the archipelago is Lamu Town, on Lamu Island.

The Swahili people who inhabit the islands are merchants, fishermen, dhow builders and sailors, many of who still follow these age-old trades.

Lamu Island Day Tours What to Do and See in Lamu Island

Shopping: Lamu’s bustling main street and in Shela’s quiet lanes local shops and up-market boutiques sell a wide range of clothing, jewelry and handcrafts.

Boat Excursions; Most visitors enjoy a day trip on a local boat to one of a couple of nearby snorkeling spots, often combining this with a beach barbecue or a simple Swahili meal cooked on board by the captain and his crew.

Sailing is popular, either in a local dhow for a sunset cruise or in an exhilarating dhow race at one of the festivals.

Water sports, Snorkeling & Diving; Scuba diving is good – especially up in Kiwayu if you are lucky enough to be going up there.

The seasonal winds and wide beaches are perfect for kite- and windsurfing. Kayaking in the creeks and channels, water skiing and wake boarding can all be arranged.

Mainland Safaris; Amu Ranch and the Manda Bay Conservancy, both accessible from Lamu by boat, offer opportunities for viewing wildlife.
