Kisumu Day Tours Hippo Point Day Trip; Hippo Point is a 600-acre open sunset viewing area on Lake Victoria. Despite its name, it is better known as a viewing point for its unobstructed sunsets over the lake than for its occasional hippos.

Hippo Point is near the village of Dunga is a small Luo fishing village just 4 kilometers outside Kisumu and is located by following the shoreline road south past the Sunset Hotel.

It is a lovely, peaceful place to visit on the shores of Lake Victoria, and given that the views of the lake from the city centre of Kisumu are curiously very limited (only from the tops of tall buildings), this is the best place to come to see the lake itself.

Our Kisumu Day Tours Hippo Point Day Trip departs from your hotel/ residence from where we pick you up and take you to Kiboko Bay Resort, Kisumu Beach Resort or the Kisumu Yacht Club.

These resorts enjoy great views and gardens where you can to have cold soda or beer as admire the little fishing boats on the lake.  You also have the opportunity to swimming in their delightful pool that sits on a little hill right above the lake.

Swimming is not allowed in Lake Victoria. Enjoy a boat ride on a luxurious boat as you check out hippos and birds in their natural habitat.

The boat ride is fun as you get to see children playing on large rocks; men cast lines into the water; women washing clothes and the occasional very precarious looking sailboat slowly passing by.

Aside from hippos you will see water birds like the geese, egrets, Fish Eagles, Kingfishers, Bee-Eaters, Weavers, Swallows, Ibises, and Spoonbills etc.

Watching the sun set over the lake is a very pleasant way to end the day and remember being so close to the equator sunset is between 1800 Hours and 1900 Hours throughout the year.

There are hippos here, and once night has fallen they come out of the water to graze on land. Later we transfer you back to your Hotel/ residence.

Additionally, there are exhibits of stuffed animals, birds and fish. One of the pavilion houses the prehistoric TARA rock art, which was moved for its own protection to the museum after it was defaced by graffiti in its original location.

A visit to the museum is not complete without viewing the 300 year old giant tortoise imported to Kenya from the Seychelles in 1930. Kisumu Museum also exhibits galleries with the material culture of the peoples of the Western Rift valley and Nyanza Province.

Ber-gi-dala consists of the home, granaries and livestock corrals of an imaginary Luo man as well as the homes of each of his three wives, and his eldest son.

Through signs and taped programs in both Luo and English, the exhibition also explains the origins of the Luo people, their migration to western Kenya, traditional healing plants, and the process of establishing a new home.

The homestead, which represents the houses of the three wives and the eldest wife’s first son, and includes livestock pens and a granary, give foreign visitors a unique insight into a traditional Luo home.

Dar-es-salaam 1 Day Tour Bongoyo Island Day Trip takes you to Tanzania's uninhabited island called Bongoyo Island situated 2.5 km north of the country’s largest city, Dar es Salaam.

This abandoned island is a popular destination for those seeking peace, unspoilt nature, sunbathing, swimming beaches and beautiful snorkeling sites.

The island lies close to the Msasani Peninsula and is reachable by means of a 30 minute boat ride from the mainland.

0800 Hours: We pick you from your hotel/ residence in Dar-es-salaam and transfer you to the Slipway shopping center on the western side of the Msasani Peninsula.

0930 Hours: Our boat departs the mainland and sails to Bongoyo Island. The ride takes about 30 minutes. Usually the boat departs with 4 or more people.

The ride in the morning on the boat ride can get splashy so remember to take some plastic/ waterproof bag to keep your valuables dry. The afternoon boat ride can be a bit choppy.

As soon as you arrive you will place your lunch order. There are a number of seafood items normally available, but be sure to ask which ones are available on that particular day (because typically not everything is available each day).

The beach at Bongoyo island is a good little escape from the city of Dar-es-salaam, and it’s easy to get there. Once you arrive on Bongoyo Island you can relax on the beach, wait for lunch, and hang out.

1300 Hours: Lunch is served. There is a hut for lunch. You can also eat at your Banda (little huts with shade) which has a view of the ocean. Also, you can bring your own food and beverages so you don’t have to purchase anything once you’re on Bongoyo Island.

Weekends can be busy, but if you go on a weekday, the island should be nice and quiet.
