Kampala Day Trips Namugongo Martyrs Shrines Tour | Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo Kampala |
|
|
Kampala Day Trips Namugongo Martyrs Shrines Tour takes you 20 kilometers east of Kampala city to Namugongo shrine and museum – the final execution sites of Uganda martyrs.
This is where more than 20 Catholic and Anglican Martyrs were burnt alive on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga in June 1886. The story of “Uganda martyrs” killed in 1886 is a story of faith, courage and Cruelty.
It’s Uganda and perhaps East Africa’s most important place of Christian pilgrimage. Christians from eastern and central Africa and indeed the world over flock to Namugongo to pay their respects and renew their faith by paying pilgrimage to the martyrs on June 3rd, every year.
The shrine is the place where a total of 32 young Ugandan Christian coverts were martyred on denial to condemn the new religion by then (Christianity) which was out spreading at fast rate in Uganda the pearl of Africa.
This annoyed the Kabaka of Buganda by then King (Kabaka Mwanga II,) and he decided to order his loyalties to execute or murder the 32 young men who refused to denounce their religion.

Kampala Day Trips Namugongo Martyrs Shrines Tour Itinerary |
0900 Hours: After breakfast at your hotel in Kampala, you will be picked up and taken to Namugongo martyr’s shrine. You will be conducted around the place, one for the Protestants and the other for the Catholics.
Each denomination maintains a church there and a service may be conducted while there, or after the service you will be taken around and given the background of the place and its historical and religious importance to the country. You will then be brought back to your hotel.
The Shrine is famous for its splendid as well as unique interior and exterior shape which is eye-catching to various travelers especially those that have spared time to visit the site.
The construction process of the famous Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine was started in the year 1967 and it was completed in the year 1975. The shrine was officially opened by the special Papal envoy, His Eminence Sergio Cardinal Pignedoli on the date of 3rd June 1975.
Pope John Paul II’s six days safari tour to Uganda’s Namugongo on the month of February 7, 1993, it helped to raise the status of the Shrine to level of a minor Basilica.
The big spectacular Shrine covering Namugongo today stands perfectly on the point where the ancient small parish church used to be. It is the very place where Charles Lwanga one of the Martyrs was burnt alive.
The unique lake found in the garden Centre of Namugong is another unique feature which visitors should not miss to explore. The Lake is depiction in memory of the work done by St. Charles Lwanga while still on good terms with the King Mwanga’s palace.
Various pilgrims to Uganda’s Namugongo have often fetched water from this historic lake and some of them have come to testify that the water in the lake heals different diseases.
Days before the long waited 3rd June, you find people of all age, matching from all directions of Uganda heading to the shrine. The long waited day is filled with several events like prayers, baptism, plays and lots of eats and drinks.

Ssese Islands consist of 84 Islands in the northwestern part of Lake Victoria in Uganda. We offer boat excursions to various places on the 84-forested Ssese Islands.
They are largely uninhabited and provide a relaxing environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city – only 70 minutes by speedboat from the mainland!
The 84 lush equatorial Ssese Islands form worlds of their own on Lake Victoria. Forests teeming with wildlife, delightful empty beaches, friendly islanders.
The peaceful environment provide a unique and fascinating opportunity for fishing, walking, boating, birdwatching or simply enjoying beautiful and unspoilt surroundings.
Here, you’ll be able to see vervet monkeys and grey parrots by the forest waterfalls, kingfishers, herons and fish eagles diving for their food in the lake.
The Ssese Islands are a perfect getaway for travelers wishing to visit somewhere a little more rustic and “off the beaten path” then the usual safari parks.
There are many islands to choose from, but Baggala Island is the most frequented by tourists, perhaps because it is the most accessible and most developed. However, the small Banda Island also provides a popular budget resort worth visiting.
Depending on your interests, you may also choose to explore Bubeke Island, Bukasa Island or Bufumira Island.

Kampala 1 Day Tour Lake Victoria Fishing Trip; With Lake Victoria offering the opportunity for hooking one of the world’s largest fresh water fish the Nile Perch, anyone with some free time and an interest can enjoy this day out.
During your fishing day trip you will catch Nile Perch. From approximately 8 kilograms to 80 kilograms in weight. Trolling with lures is the main method of fishing used.
Speedboats of between 18 and 30 foot, powered by twin outboard engines are used. The boats have a large seating capacity but cater for a maximum of 4 people fishing at any one time (to avoid line tangling etc).
Fibre glass 24 foot long “canoes” powered by an outboard engine are also available for smaller groups of 2-3 fishermen and usually best for day trips.
Our boats are equipped with an overhead sun canopy, rain suits (there can be a certain amount of spray when the lake is rough), mobile phone, life jackets, basic first aid box and fire extinguisher on board for your safety.
We also have a cooler box on board for cold drink storage. All equipment and lures for trolling for perch for up to 4 lines per boat are supplied, but anglers are free to bring their own.
|
Kampala 1 Day Tour Lake Victoria Fishing Trip Itinerary |
0730 Hours: After breakfast at your hotel/ residence, we transfer you to Entebbe for your full day fish trip. If you are in Entebbe we also arrange for a transfer for you as well. Entebbe is located around 40 kilometers from Kampala City Centre.
0900 Hours: Arrive in Entebbe outside Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), Lugard Avenue, where we park our vehicle and take a short walk to the pier from where we depart/ return.
Kampala 1 Day Tour Lake Victoria Fishing Trip full day lasts approximately 8 hours on the water. Fishing is done around local islands about a 45 minute boat trip from Entebbe.
The areas fished will depend upon the weather and how the fish are biting. At certain times of the year the lake can be very rough with large swells and so then we tend to utilize the sheltered bays for fishing. You will have services of local fishing guide.
1300 Hours: A picnic lunch is provided with a cool box of beers, mineral water and sodas as well as tea and coffee. Anglers are free to bring along additional drinks required.
We suggest you bring as much sun protection as possible – hats, sunglasses, creams as it can be quite hot out on the lake (average day time temperatures are in the mid to late 20 degrees C).
Strops or sandals are a good idea as you may well get wet feet – especially getting on and off the boat! Insect repellent is a good idea. A camera if you’d like to capture “the big fish” on film and a pair of binoculars if you are keen on birdlife.
Light day wear such as T-shirts and shorts are normally fine but we recommend a rain jacket in case of bad weather and a sweater or light jacket for cooler weather and the evenings.
1700 Hours: Return to the Pier in Entebbe. Later transfer you back to your hotel/ residence.

|
Kampala Day Tour Ziwa Rhino Wildlife Ranch Trip | Day Tour to Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch | A visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary |
|
|
Kampala Day Tour Ziwa Rhino Wildlife Ranch Trip is an exciting day safari to see White Rhinos in their natural habitat at the Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch located in Nakasongola district – the proud home of the only wild rhinos in Uganda.
Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch is conveniently located 176 kilometers (100 miles) north of Kampala on the Gulu highway towards Murchison Falls. Ziwa is the only place where you will be able to see rhinos in the wild.
Presently the sanctuary is home to fifteen (15) southern white rhinos. The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is run by Uganda Rhino Fund and Uganda Wildlife Authority.
The sanctuary is not only home to the rhinos but also to approximately 20 other species of wildlife as well as 300 different bird species.
Uganda was a home of thousands of rhinos some years back and the main aim for establishing this Sanctuary was to restore the rhinoceros population in Uganda (Black and White).
There are five species of rhino in the world – Two in Africa, three in Asia all endangered and the success of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary will play the key role in the eventual re-introduction of rhino back into the wild in Uganda’s National Parks.
It is the only place in Uganda where you can see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. When the rhinos are mature, they are sent out to different national parks. Rhinos are slow breeders, giving birth to one calf every two to four years. These rhinos are the only wild rhinos in Uganda.
The sanctuary sits on 70 square Kilometers of land and it has electric fencing all around it for keeping the rhinos protected from ill motive of intruders.

|
Kampala 1 Day Trip Mabamba Bay Wetland Birding Tour is a bird watching day excursion to Mabamba Bay wetland located 36 km's south west of Kampala on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Wakiso district.
Mabamba Bay is one of the most important bird areas (IBA) and one of the richest marshy areas along the Northern shores of Lake Victoria. Mabamba Bay wetland covers about 17,000 hectares of an expanse papyrus.
The site is the most accessible for spotting the wild species of Shoebill Stork in the whole world. The Birding excursion is done on the canoes in bog channels.
These hefty marshlands are home to an ecological unit of birds, animals, bugs, fish, that are not found elsewhere. The Shoebill is part of that ecology, preferring the loneliness of these large marshes.
Additionally, there are gazelles specifically adapted to the hovering flora.
A canoe voyage through papyrus swamp in the Mabamba will take you to the unscathed attractiveness of the wetland, where you will have the highest chance of seeing Shoebill and other papyrus specialist birds like Saddle-billed Stork, Malachite Kingfisher, African Jacana, and other swamp specialties.
Others bird species at Mabamba include the White-winged Warbler, Papyrus Gonolek, yellow-backed weaver, Northern Brown-throated Weaver, Blue-headed Coucal and other swamp specialties. In the afternoon, drive back to the Kampala or Entebbe.
Apart from Murchison Falls National Park, Mabamba Wetland is the only place and site where the elusive Shoebill can be spotted at anytime.

Thereafter drive for at least 20 minutes on a dirt road to Mabamba Bay Swamp for your birding adventure. You travel into the swamp in flat-bottomed boats (with a small quiet motor) with a guide and a boat driver who know the swamp.
At this site expect to see the elusive shoebill stork while in dugout canoe, this is a whole day experience. We take with us packed lunch and bottled mineral water to spend the day searching for these eye-catching birds.
