Kitengela Hot Glass Studio Half Day Tour Nairobi is an excursion to Anselm Kitengela (the glassware factory) and Kitengala Glass (a more general art studio).

The place is located about an hour’s drive (across rutted roads) from Nairobi town centre and overlooks the Nairobi National Park.

Glass making and stain glass is what this place is about. Spend the morning or afternoon at the Kitengela Hot Glass studio, where you can watch the process of glass blowing.  

It’s fascinating to see old glass bottles turned into molten glass, and expertly transformed into something completely new.

Hundreds of different glass objects designed by Anselm are made here by his skilled team of artisans, from individual glass artworks to entire collections custom designed glass-ware, table-ware and home-ware for restaurants, hotels, lodges, camps and other corporate clients throughout Africa.

The shops on the site have wonderful items for sale – sleek vases the color of sea glass, extravagant murals, lovely wine goblets, bejeweled chandeliers, sun splashed mosaics and many more.

Nairobi Horse Riding Day Tour Kawamwaki Farm Limuru: less than 25 km's from Gigiri in Nairobi there is beautiful open countryside where you can ride horses away from the pollution and congestion of the city.

We pick you after breakfast at your hotel/ residence and drive to Kawamwaki Farm – located in the tea country of Limuru, a pleasant 70 minute drive from the city.

Kawamwaki’s neighbours are tea estates and coupled with the elevation (altitude of 2000 meters), the land gives magnificent riding and walking, close to Nairobi with breathtaking views.

The farm produces fresh vegetables for the Nairobi and Kenya market, using traditional and organic methods.

During your horse riding tour you will visit horse centre where you will be welcomed followed by  a steaming cup of coffee/ tea, or a refreshing glass of juice, and then it is time to match up with the horses.

You will be required to sign an indemnity form and will be fitted with hard hats, before you meet the horses.

Our guided tour includes a museum curator who gives detailed information on both prehistory and the history of Kariandusi Archaeological site, and Kariandusi Museum.

Other attractions at the site include a Nature trail, caves and a monumental church building. The area is also popularly known for the mining of diatomite used for filtering soft drinks and toothpaste manufacture.

1200 Hours: After an informative and exciting tour of Kariandusi Prehistoric site, we proceed to Nakuru and stop for lunch then continue to the Hyrax Hill Prehistoric Site and Museum discovered by Louise and Mary Leakey.

Hyrax Hill Museum depicts the lifestyle of seasonal settlement by prehistoric people at least 3,000 years old. The Museum is a former farmhouse ceded to the monument in 1965, by the Late Mr. A. Selfe.

A small museum was opened here where artifacts from the Hyrax Hill site and other sites in the Central Rift Valley are displayed.

Numerous sites around the hill belong to different time periods with the earliest finds dating back to the Neolithic period.

The site gets its name from the hyraxes which used to be found in abundance living in the rock cracks found in this area.

Our guided tour of this Kenya Archaeological site will highlight the following areas: Hyrax Hill Museum, Neolithic Site, Sirikwa hollows and the Tortoise pit.

1500 Hours: Later we depart by road back to Nairobi.

Albizia cottage is one of the 9 Kembu cottages in Kenana farm and is located on a large 900 acre/ 400ha farm just 8 km's beyond Njoro and 30 minutes from Nakuru Town.

This holiday home is only a 3 hours drive from Nairobi. Albizia Cottage, built during the late twenties, has been restored back to a unique but affordable self-catering holiday home.

It consists of 2 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms + 1 well-equipped kitchen + 1 living room/ lounge + large veranda, dining area with a cozy fireplace and a spacious private garden (great in the morning sunshine).

Albizia cottage has 2 en suite rooms one with 2 single beds for 2 guests and a double room for 2 guests. There are lovely historical photos of Major Herbert Pease and his family who developed the farm when he retired from the police force in Sudan.

The farm was the south eastern corner of Lord Delamere’s original Equator Ranch. There are numerous day trips in easy reach of the farm.

Nairobi Hiking Tour 2 Hour Walk Karura Forest is a half day excursion to Karura Forest Reserve – an urban upland forest located about 5 km's on the outskirts of Nairobi central business district, the capital of Kenya.

This 564 hectare forest is surrounded by the northern up-market suburbs of Muthaiga, Runda and Gigiri, with Kiambu Road on one side and Limuru Road on the other.

The tour begins by a pickup from your hotel/ residence followed by a short drive to the starting point called the Karura Forest Station, located along Kiambu Road.

Our Karura Forest hiking tour comprises of an easy walk on dirt road that turns to a narrow trail close to the end. It lasts about 2 hours and is ideal for the whole family or group team building.

Karura Forest offers various attractions to its visitors such as picnic sites, Mau Mau caves, marked walking trails, scenic waterfalls and rivers and small wetlands that are habitats for birds.

There is also the incinerator formerly used by Central Bank of Kenya to burn old currency notes and the area around which the late Professor Wangari Maathai carried out a campaign against illegal acquisition of forest land.

Nairobi Hiking Tour 2 Hour Walk Karura Forest Route Description

Karura Forest hiking tour begins from the Forest Station on Kiambu Road and the walk to Karura Caves and Waterfalls is about 4 km long. This family trail was opened to the public in early 2009 through the collaborative efforts of the Kenya Forest Service and Friends of Karura.

After walking on motor vehicle dirt roads from the Forest Gate for a couple of kilometers, you’ll encounter a sign pointing to a trail on the right that leads to the Caves.

The trail drops sharply until it reaches Karura River, before leveling off to follow the course of the river. A few meters on, you’ll come upon the Karura Caves. These caves were considered sacred by the local community, with a long history of usage as a place for religious worship.

They are also reputed to have been a hideout for the Mau Mau during the fight for independence from the British colonial government.

A kilometer further down the trail is the spectacular 50ft Karura Waterfalls, with water cascading over three shelves before settling to a gentle flow down the river.

Besides the two attractions above, Karura Forest has over 50 km of nature trails, a bamboo forest, and a marshland filled with a wide range of birdlife.

They provide the perfect backdrop for nature lovers. An old chimney incinerator that was used in the past by Central Bank of Kenya for destroying decommissioned currency notes still stands today in the forest.
