3 Days 2 Nights Volcanoes National Park Gorilla Rwanda Safari is a quick and affordable way to experience Rwanda famous Volcanoes National Park (Pac Des Volacans) to trek the mountain gorillas. The rare mountain Gorillas are seen in plenty here which makes it the best place on earth to visit.

The Volcanoes National Park is surrounded by five Virunga mountains in the northern part of Rwanda and lies in the Musanze District (former Ruhengeri). The park is located about 105 km from Kigali and the drive takes about 2.30 minutes by road.

Volcanoes National Park is home to over 350 Mountain gorillas, thus offering the ultimate gorilla trekking experience.

There is a variety of other primates, including the endemic golden monkeys, plus forest elephants, buffalo, giant forest hogs (Africa's largest swine), bush pigs, bushbucks, black-fronted duikers, spotted hyenas, and around 200 species of birds.

Aside from Mountain gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park, there are other activities and attractions. These include Golden Monkey trekking, adventurous hike to Dian Fossey Tombs, mountain hiking adventures on Mt Bisoke and Mt Muhabura.

We also have guided walks, bird watching, mountain bikes excursions, visiting the Ibylwacu cultural centre or visit to the twin lakes.

Day 1: Kigali city tour, visit Gisozi Genocide memorial, art and craft markets, then transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking adventure, afternoon guided community walk
Day 3: Optional Activities; second gorilla trek, Golden Monkey tracking, hike to Dian Fossey Tombs, Musanze Caves exploration etc. Later  drive back to Kigali

* Only 86 permits are issued by the Rwanda Tourism Board, so it’s important to plan your trip earlier
* What you need to Carry for your Rwanda gorilla tracking Safari; rain jackets, insect repellent, hiking shoes/ boots, walking or supporting sticks, 2 to 3 liters of bottled water, packed food and a porter to carry you or your bag in case you fail to make it
* Because this is based on a private vehicle and guide, the costs for this trip would reduce if more than 2 guests are travelling. Conversely, they would increase substantially if only one person is travelling alone
* It is worth noting that the gorilla treks can be strenuous, but they are taken at a slow pace – the hike could be anything from 50 minutes to 6 or 7 hours depending on which gorilla family you visit.
* Expect to Track one of these gorilla families, Susa group with 41 gorilla members, Sabyinyo family with 8 gorillas, Amahoro 17 members, Kwitonda with 18, Umubano with 11 and Hirwa with 13 members

Day 1: Kigali – Drive to Volcanoes National Park
Your safari begins in Kigali – time permitting, enjoy a city tour and a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. A visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial is a moving testimony to this country’s past that it has courageously overcome (guests to pay/donate entrance fees directly).

After lunch transfer to Volcanoes the park in the afternoon.  You driver guide is a great source of information and will be happy to answer any questions you may have along the way.

After around two-hours you'll arrive at your lodge/ camp.

Day 2: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking -Twin Lakes visit/ Community walk
Today you will set off early after breakfast for the park headquarters where you will register for the gorilla trekking. Once you've been assigned a group and have had a briefing from your guide you will be driven to the trailhead where you will start the walk.

Trackers leave before the tourist groups to locate the gorilla groups so your guide should know where to take you, and once you've found the group you will have one hour with them to take photos and observe them as they interact. Return to your lodge for lunch.

While trekking the trackers assit you to spot other animals animals like the golden monkeys, elephants, buffaloes as well as a variety of different birds.

After lunch and a hot shower, you will have the afternoon free to do as you please. Your driver will be at your disposal, so perhaps explore the local villages, or the nearby lakes of Burera or Ruhondo.

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park – Kigali
This morning you can have a leisurely breakfast before setting off with your driver to Kigali. One can also go for a second gorilla trek (additional permits required). Drive back to Kigali city or the airport. 

It will take around two and a half hours, or longer if you stop a lot to take photographs.
