Creaky Cottage Nanyuki is nestled within the lower end of the TamTrout farm on the western slopes of Mt. Kenya. It is located on the Burguret River, 3 kilometers from Nanyuki Civil Airstrip. The cottage is a 2-hour drive from Nairobi and 13 kilometers from Nanyuki town.

The cottage’s name is derived from the creaking sound made by the surrounding podo trees.The holiday home is well-equipped for self catering and provides a secluded and tranquil setting.

It also features a cozy living room with a fireplace, a spacious veranda for enjoying one’s sundowner and a fully-fitted kitchen.The cottage sleeps up to 6 guests with two double bedrooms and two single beds in an under-the eaves loft room with a shared bathroom.

Batian Guest House Mount Kenya is set in alpine pastures on the edge of a forested ravine, at the foot of Mount Kenya with an impressive landscape. The guesthouse is about 200 kilometers North- East of Nairobi. The closest airstrip is Nanyuki airstrip.

There are 4 bedrooms which can accommodate up to 8 guests.  2 of the bedrooms have double beds, one bedroom has a double decker and the other one bedroom has 2 single beds. The bathroom is en-suite and has hot water shower and a flush toilet.

The sitting room in the house is tastefully furnished and has a log fireplace that creates a warm and cosy ambiance. There is an open plan dining area leading off the sitting room. The veranda is also fully equipped with nice dining furniture.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses. Here guests can cook for themselves or have the caretaker prepare meals for them. There is a verandah with beautiful view of the surrounding landscape.

3 Days 2 Nights Uganda Birding Safari Budongo Forest is a guided birding safari tour that explores Budongo Forest which is adjacent to Murchison Falls National Park.

Budongo Forest is situated approximately a 3 hour drive northwest of the capital city Kampala on the way to the prominent Murchison Falls National Park.

The forest is among the most ideal places in Uganda to have a guided bird watching tour by the Royal Mile that extends from Nyabyeya Forestry College to the research station.

Among the various bird species that have been recorded in this forest are more than 360 species that will certainly reward you with a very amazing birding safari experience in this great forest in Uganda.

In addition there are 290 butterflies species, 130 Moths species, 465 tree species, as well as 24 mammals nine of which are actually primates.

Budongo forest is of great interest to birders. It has a checklist of over 360 birds of which 60 are considered west or central African birds.

The forest is the second most important in Uganda (after Semuliki National Park) for species of the Guinea-Congo forest Biome.

Two species of birds found in Budongo forest are found nowhere else in East Africa: Yellow-footed flycatcher and Illadopsis puveli.

The best location for bird watching is on ‘The Royal Mile’, a wide forested track once visited by King Kabalega of Bunyoro. Migratory birds are present from November to April.

Best Time for Bird watching Budongo Forest Reserve

The bird life in Budongo Forest is good year-round, but at its best from February to April and in September.

June to September is the main fruiting season so food is abundant and many birds are in breeding plumage. Migratory birds are present from November to April.

December to February has the least rain while April to May and September to October have most rain. The heavy rains might result in delays due to impassable roads.

Slippery hiking trails can limit your Bird watching time. For birds a visit to the Royal Mile is a must. This spectacular wide forest avenue was first enjoyed by King Kabalega of Bunyoro earning its name ‘The Royal Mile’.

It is a 15 km drive from the eco-tourism site and visitors must pay a forest entry fee before entering the forest reserve.

Day 1: Kampala – Drive to Budongo Forest Reserve
0700 Hours: Depart Kampala after breakfast at and transfer to Budongo Forest Reserve.

1100 Hours: Estimated time of arrival in Budongo Forest Reserve. We check-in at the Budongo Eco Lodge in the dormitory or self contained room for the day.

1230 Hours: Get settled into your quarters and have lunch at the Budongo Eco Lodge. Budongo Forest is an oasis of tranquility where one can truly feel at peace with nature. The forest is the oldest Mahogany Tree Forest in East Africa.

1400 Hours: After lunch you have several options below:

* Guided Forest Walk of 1.5 Hours
The loop system leading from the visitor center offers fascinating forest walks. The guides will interpret the features of the forest which include elephant pit traps, salt licks, elephant wallows and historic grinding stoners.

Secrets of the forests will be revealed on these walks. Discover a tree that gets elephants drunk and be amazed at the huge indestructible Ironwood trees dominating the forest canopy.

* 3 Hour Guided Birding Adventure
A guided walk for up to 3 Hours is available for viewing the bird life of Budongo. All the guides in Budongo are keen birders and have exceptional talent. Budongo is famous for its bio diversity in birds and is home to the rare Puvel’s illadopses which is an endemic species to Budongo forest.

* Guided Forest Walk 4 Hours
For those who only want to have a quick look in the forest and really just want to break up the journey into Parra from Kampala, we suggest the forest walk experience that can be as short as 30 min's or as long as 1 ½ hours.

You will see the beautiful old mahogany trees of Buongo, the oldest trees of this species in east Africa. You are likely to see some primates and other wildlife, including the spectacular number of butterflies.

3 Days 2 Nights Kidepo Valley National Park flying Safari is a quick and affordable way to experience Uganda's most remote and isolated Park called Kidepo Valley National Park.

By road it’s a 12 Hour drive and just 2 hours by flight. Kidepo Valley National Park is found in the remote Karamoja region in the North Eastern corner of Uganda’s borders with Sudan and Kenya.

Its location is approximately 700 kilometers from Kampala Uganda's capital and largest city.

The park contains one of the most exciting faunas of any Ugandan National Park. Along with the neighboring Karamoja region, it houses many species found nowhere else in Uganda, including the greater and Lesser Kudu, Eland and Cheetah.

Carnivores here include the Lion, Leopard, Spotted Hyena and Black-Backed and side-striped Jackals.

Other large species regularly seen here are elephant, Burchell’s zebra, bush pig, warthog, Rothschild’s giraffe, Cape buffalo, bushbuck, bush duiker, Defassa waterbuck, Bohor reedbuck, Jackson’s hartebeest and oribi.

The park boasts an extensive bird list of around 475 species, making it second only in Uganda to Queen Elizabeth National Park. A few species of note are the Ostrich, Kori Bustard and Karamoja Apalis.

Kidepo is notable for its birds of prey. Of the 56 species recorded, 14 – including Verreaux’s Eagle, Egyptian Vulture and Pygmy Falcon – are believed to be endemic to the Kidepo and Karamoja region.

The cultural aspect of the tour includes a visit to the host community – the Karamajong, a nomadic pastoral tribe in north eastern Uganda.

Day 2: Discover Kidepo Valley National Park
0800 Hours: After an early breakfast, depart for an extensive morning game drive in the park. Kidepo’s mammal list of over 80 species includes 28 that are found in no other Ugandan National park.

Amongst these are such charismatic African animals as Bat-eared Fox, Carcal, Cheetah and Klipspringer. Other large mammals include Elephant, Common Zebra, Buffalo, Bohor Reedbuck, Waterbuck and Kongoni.

Predators are plentiful and Spotted Hyena, Leopard and Lion are frequently seen.

1230 Hours: Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we enjoy cultural experience that brings us into direct contact with Karamjong peoples at Karenna and Kapedo.

The Karamojongs are cousins to the Masai in Kenya and they were mostly nomadic pastoralists however they have been recently introduced to farming.

You will meet the local elders and have an opportunity to interact with them. They will show you the kraals, the grinding stones and thier customs and cultures.

You get to learn their ways of life as nomads and their belives about cattle, dressing, jewelry, hunting materials and much more.

1830 Hours: Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
