Mount Longonot Hiking Day Trip Safari is a one day tour to Mt Longonot National Park.  As you drive from Nairobi along the upper escarpment road to Naivasha, the breathtaking view of Mt Longonot beckons you to the left, barely 60 km out of Nairobi.

Mt Longonot is a dormant volcano estimated to have last erupted in the mid 1800s, and stands at an estimated 750 meters above the floor of the Great Rift Valley.

The mountain is 2776 meters above sea level and dominates the surrounding landscape, with lava canyons on its steep slopes, and a circular caldera over a kilometer in diameter.

A number of viewpoints on the highway have become popular stopovers for motorists drawn by the splendor of this magnificent view. The whole mountain is a National Park under the jurisdiction of Kenya Wildlife Services.

It is home to several wild animals including buffalos, antelopes and leopards, most of which live in the thick forest covering the crater floor. Spotting them is not guaranteed.

The hike on this mountain takes about 2 hours from the Park Gate to the rim of the crater and back, while for those going round the crater as well, the hike takes about 4 hours for the round trip.

The path up the slope is pretty steep and slippery at some points, so you need to be reasonably fit to do this hike. The views from the crater rim however make every painful step worth the effort.

The main attraction is the extinct volcano and crater forest, Scenic Landscape, Views of lake Naivasha and the Great Rift Valley. The park is a paradise for birds of prey.

Other activities at Mount Longonot include hiking, rock climbing, biking, walking and viewing Lake Naivasha.

Nairobi National Museum, Kenya’s leading house of culture, has introduced guided tours for individuals and groups of 10 or more people.

The tours, to be conducted between 6.00 PM and 10.00 PM, will cost between Sh250 and Sh2000, depending on the age, citizenship and residence status of a participant. The booking has to be made in advance through the Public Relations department of the museum, though.

      Nairobi Safari Walk Information

The Nairobi Safari Walk offers a unique setting for visitors to see Kenya’s flora and fauna in habitats that simulate natural environments, albeit on a smaller scale than the large National Parks and Game Reserves.

Unobtrusive fences erected in deep trenches create an immersive experience for the visitor, making a trip to the Nairobi Safari Walk a pleasant adventure that could last one to two hours.

The first ecosystem you encounter when you enter the Nairobi Safari Walk is a Wetland covered in water lilies and fringed with papyrus. This is also home to grazing pigmy hippos and lazing crocodiles.

Nairobi Animal Orphanage today remains the most visited wildlife facility in Kenya and especially by Kenyans because it allows guests up-close viewing of wildlife.

Have fun, relax and experience close proximity to wildlife whilst enjoying the beauty of Kenya’s biodiversity.

Arusha National Park 1 Day Safari is perfect for a day safari as it is close to Arusha National Park which lies just 25 kilometers east of Arusha Town.

The park offers a rewarding wildlife day trip from Arusha or Moshi. Arusha National park covers an area of about 137square kilometers.

It is located near Arusha town between the peaks of Mountains Kilimanjaro and Meru. The Park and the town derive their name from Wa-Arusha people who traditionally live in this area.

The Ngurdoto Crater, Momela Lakes, the highland mountain forest, and the rugged Mount Meru (4575m) are the four distinctive features of the park.

Although small, the park has a wealth of wildlife including Colobus monkeys, velvet monkeys, bushbucks, buffaloes, red forest duikers, hippos, elephants and giraffes. Bird life, especially waterfowl, is abundant and interesting.

You can do some hiking with an armed ranger at the Ngurdoto Crater and to the Mount Meru Crater.  Arusha National Park 1 Day Safari is a good trip for guests who have a short time in Tanzania.

After breakfast at your hotel, our Arusha National Park 1 Day Safari departs from your hotel for Arusha National Park.

This small but beautiful Tanzanian National Park is the closest national park to both the famous Arusha "the safari town"  as well as the Kilimanjaro International Airport, thus making it ideal for 1-day safaris or tours.

We enjoy a morning and an afternoon game drive in the park and in between have lunch at the Momela wildlife lodge.

Arusha National park Wildlife includes African buffalos, elephants, hippos, giraffe, warthogs, antelopes, zebras, monkeys and sometimes a rare leopard or hyena.

We return back to the hotel later in the evening.

Arusha National Park 1 Day Safari Itinerary

0730 Hours: Breakfast at your Hotel.

0830 Hours: After breakfast, our Arusha National Park 1 Day Safari departs by road (25 kilometers) East of Arusha Town to Arusha National Park. Begin your gamedrive in the park.

The park (137km²), has terrain ranging from open savannah through acacia scrub lands to Afro-montane cloud and rain forest and Afro-alpine vegetation similar to Mount Kilimanjaro.

There are several alkaline lakes and the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater.  Although small, the park has a wealth of wildlife including colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, bushbucks, buffaloes, red forest duikers, hippos, elephants, and giraffes.

Birdlife, especially waterfowl, is abundant and interesting. You can do some hiking (extra cost) with an armed ranger at the Ngurdoto Crater and to the Mt. Meru Crater.

The hike is superb, often giving the best views available of Mount Kilimanjaro.  At 4,556 meters, Mount Meru is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and is located in the Arusha National Park.

1230 Hours: Lunch is served at Momela Wildlife Lodge.

1400 Hours: Another game drive in the park is planned. Hatari was filmed on location in Tanganyika, (in what is now Arusha National Park Northern Tanzania).

Hatari is a 1962 American film directed by Hawks and starring John Wayne John Wayne Marion Mitchell Morrison, born Marion Robert Morrison, better known by his stage name John Wayne, was an American film actor, director and producer.

He epitomized rugged masculinity and has become an enduring American icon. He is famous for his distinctive voice, walk and height. The title means "danger" in Swahili, which was mentioned in the film as well.

Portraying a group of hunters, the film presents an interesting if antiquated portrait of Africa still dominated by non-Africans.

The film is extremely popular because of the dramatic wildlife chases and the magnificent backdrop scenery of Mount Meru, a dormant volcano.

1800 Hours: Our Arusha National Park 1 Day Safari ends in Arusha/ Moshi town in the evening.

Perhaps most impressive are the large herds of elephant that congregate along the riverbanks – it is sometimes possible to see over 500 in a day.

Bird Watching: There is plenty of colorful birdlife. Yellow-billed and saddle-billed storks are often found in the river and orange-bellied parrots and red-and-yellow barbets in the acacia woodland.

Night Game Drives: There’s also the opportunity to see some of Tanzania’s famous ‘nightlife’, with unforgettable night drives permitted within Tarangire.

Walking Safari: The privilege of walking in these natural areas gives you an exhilarating feeling of adventure. Although you'll usually get close to large mammals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo or even lion, walking safaris are very safe.

Experienced guides and an armed National Park ranger will accompany you on every walk. Walking safaris can take an hour or a whole morning or afternoon.
