Maralal Safari Lodge

Maralal Safari Lodge is located in Maralal Game Sanctuary, approximately 350 km North of Nairobi and lies 3 km north of Maralal town. The Lodge is easily accessible by air from almost anywhere in Kenya to a landing strip used by the lodge.

By road travel from Nyahururu along the C77 road, Isiolo along with the A2, C79, and C78, or from the southwest at Lake Baringo along the eastbound C78.

Maralal Safari Lodge is the only one in the area with adequate visitor facilities and the best viewing of wildlife in the Reserve is from the hotel terrace. Game viewing is both by day and floodlight by night. The lodge has beautiful landscapes, a wide assortment of wildlife, and the best place where to experience the Annual Camel Derby.

The lodge has 48 beds, all rooms are en-suite, and most have verandahs. The rooms are built of local cedar and cypress woods, with most comprising a spacious ‘Swiss Chalet’ feel. Guests enjoy the restaurant and bar and apart from having the best-stocked bar in the region, the inglenook fireplaces are perfect for chilly evenings.

Each has its own fireplace, hot showers, comfortable beds, and shaded patio decks. The wildlife comes right to the rooms – with zebras, monkeys, and impalas being frequent guests.

Wildlife in Maralal Wildlife Sanctuary ranges from the elusive aardvarks and zorillas and extends to the exciting leopards and hyenas. Among the other creatures, you will find warthogs, jackals, zebras (sometimes even the rare Grevy’s zebra!), hyrax, giant leopard tortoises, genets, impala, monkeys, baboons, rockhoppers, elands.

Maralal is also home to Kenyatta House, where Jomo Kenyatta was detained prior to his release. This rather unassuming modern house has a significant place in the history of modern Kenya.

Maralal Safari Lodge Activities include village visits, hiking, game drive, day trips to Lake Turkana, Elephant watching, Bird watching, and Swimming Pool.
