Jongomero Camp Ruaha National Park Tanzania

Jongomero Camp Ruaha is a small luxury lodge located on the southern boundaries of Ruaha National Park in Tanzania. The camp is tucked below a dappled riverine canopy on the banks of the seasonal Jongomero river, a natural pathway for animals in search of water.

Jongomero Camp is located 5 minutes drive from the Jongomero Airstrip. Approximate flight time from Dar es Salaam is between 1 hour 20 minutes and 2 hours 30 minutes (depending on the type of aircraft and number of stops).

The camp has 8 large and well-appointed tented suites, built on raised wooden platforms, under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private deck that overlooks the dry riverbed.

Positioned on one of the meanders, with sweeping views of the bank beyond, lies the camp bar, lounge, and restaurant; which comprises an open wooden terrace shaded by a high thatched roof with comfortable sofas and furniture made of reclaimed dhow wood. The camp also has a Swimming pool.

Jongomero Camp is not fenced, so the Ruaha National Park wildlife is free to pass through as it wishes. Elephants are daily and nightly visitors to the camp, while vast herds of buffalo pass in relatively close proximity. The lions too pass through camp, as do (rarely) leopards

All Jongomero Camp’s tents are widely spaced along the banks of the Sand River, a popular watering point for a diversity of wildlife. The dining, lounge, and bar enjoy magnificent views and look out over a natural “hippo friendly” swimming pool.

Activities available from Jongomero Camp Ruaha include; Game Drives, Game Walks, Fly Camping, Birding, Swimming, etc. Jongomero is an inviting spot to relax with a good book in hand or socialize with other guests around the bar with an ice-cold drink in hand.  Alternatively, laze around the pool, and enjoy the sights and sounds of being so close to nature.

Ruaha also holds one of the greatest populations of elephants in any African park. Buffalo gather in large herds, as well as giraffe, zebra, impala, eland, hippo, crocodile, lion, and leopard. The rarer, lesser-seen creatures can also be found, including sable and roan antelope, dikdik, greater and lesser kudus, Grants gazelle, and honey badgers.
