Our Lamu Helicopter Scenic Flight Safari route passes over the Yatta Plateau and the Tsavo River, which runs from the Western end of the Tsavo East National Park to its confluence with the Athi-Galana-Sabaki River – the second-longest river in Kenya.

This river is located in the centre of the Park. to Tsavo East. The flight path will go Northwards from the Tana River Delta and includes a view of the Dunes as you head up to Lamu.

0700 Hours – Departure & The Great Rift (Optional Start)
Departure Location: Most flights depart from Wilson Airport (Nairobi) or private conservancy helipads in Laikipia.
Initial Flight Path: Head east toward the Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow.

0830 Hours – Tsavo River & Wildlife Spotting
Aerial Safari: Fly along the Tsavo River, which cuts through the heart of Tsavo East National Park. This is a prime opportunity for low-level “game viewing” of elephants, buffalo, and hippos from the air.
Scenic Confluence: View where the Tsavo joins the Athi-Galana-Sabaki River, Kenya’s second-longest river system.

1000 Hours – Remote Bush Breakfast
The Landing: Pilots often choose a scenic, inaccessible ridge or a sandbar for a Bush Breakfast. Enjoy coffee and a full English breakfast in total wilderness before taking off again.

1130 Hours – Tana River Delta & Coastal Dunes
Transition to Coast: The flight path continues northwards over the Tana River Delta, a wetland of international importance teeming with birdlife and crocodiles.
Sand Dunes: Experience the dramatic shift in landscape as the helicopter glides over the massive coastal dunes that guard the approach to the Lamu Archipelago

1230 Hours – Lamu Archipelago Arrival
Island Hopping from Above: Scenic orbits over the islands of Manda, Pate, Kiwayu, and Manda Toto.

UNESCO World Heritage View: View the ancient stone houses and winding alleys of Lamu Old Town from above before landing at Manda Airport or a private beachfront pad
1330 Hours – Cultural Immersion & Lunch

Ground Activity: Transfer by boat to Lamu Island for a traditional Swahili lunch
Guided Walk: A short tour through the Lamu Museum and the narrow streets to see the famous intricately carved Swahili doors

1400 Hours – Return Flight or Island Drop-off
Conclusion: Guests may choose to be dropped off at luxury retreats such as Manda Bay or Kipungani Explorer to begin their beach holiday, or fly back to Nairobi/Mombasa, catching the sunset over the Indian Ocean on the return leg.
