10 Day Kenya & Rwanda Fly-in Safari visits Naivasha, Masai Mara and Volcanoes in Rwanda; enjoy two of Africa’s most iconic wildlife experiences – begin by searching for lion, leopard and cheetah on safari in the Masai Mara followed by tracking mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park.
Fly from Nairobi to South-western Kenya to the Maasai Mara National Reserve and stay for 3 nights at any one of the three award-winning Governors’ luxury safari camps – Little Governors Camp, Governors Il Moran Camp or the Governors Camp.
Tucked away in a forest on the banks of the Mara River, Governors’ safari camps are located in a pristine spot of wilderness which is home to an incredible array of wildlife. The camps are ideally placed to let you to be at the heart of the Great Wildebeest Migration.
On many occasions, guests have seen the wildebeest cross the Mara River right in front of Governors’ Camp. Enjoy early morning, and late afternoon Big 5 game drives in open-sided Land Rovers, game walks, massages, guided safaris walks and Hot-air Ballooning.
After 3 Nights in Masai Mara we hop over to Rwanda and have an overnight stop in its capital, Kigali, where you’ll have the chance to learn more about Rwanda’s history and culture.
After a night in Kigali we transfer by road to Volcanoes National Park and make Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge our home for the next three nights. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge located close to the headquarters of the Volcanoes National Park from where you trek on foot to see the magnificent Mountain Gorilla.
In the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda there are over 20 families of Mountain Gorilla, comprised of around 280 individual gorillas, living on the slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes. Of these 20 families, 12 families are visited with 10 families being visited each day. The Parks Authority rotates the families that you trek to see, on a daily basis.
Accompanied by guides and trackers, you’ll trek through the vegetation to find your troop going about their day feeding, playing, grooming and socializing. Under the ever-watchful eye of a dominant silverback, you’ll encounter between a dozen and thirty other gorillas, each with their own personalities, from cocky adolescents and wise mothers to young ones rolling through the bamboo.
It’s always a magical experience. As well as gorilla trekking, you can meet endemic golden monkeys, take day trips to scenic lakes and visit the Diane Fossey’s memorial.

Safari Itinerary in Detail
Day 1: Nairobi – Loldia Ranch Lake Naivasha
After breakfast at your hotel/ residence in Nairobi, our driver guide will meet you and transfer you by road (a two-hour drive) through the scenically beautiful Great Rift Valley down to Loldia House, nestling on the shores of Lake Naivasha.
Enjoy a delicious lunch on the lawn overlooking Mt Longonot. Enjoy the afternoon with game drives around the farm, or perhaps a boat trip on the lake. Or simply relax around our beautiful infinity pool which offers stunning lake views, or even book yourself in for some of our luxury spa treatments!

Day 2: Explore Loldia Ranch Lake Naivasha
During your time at Loldia, you can either opt for a full day’s activities on Loldia Ranch; these include birdwatching and boat trips on Lake Naivasha, visits to the local flower farm and a night game drive.
Or you can have a super early morning start and head off to Lake Nakuru National Park with a packed breakfast. Enjoy a morning game drive around Lake Nakuru, famous for its abundance of flamingos and a large variety of water birds.
The park was declared a rhino sanctuary in 1983 and is currently home to both black and white species – they are regularly seen – along with good sightings of leopard. A picnic lunch is served under the Acacia trees overlooking the lake, or you can head back to Loldia for a late lunch.
There is also the option to stop at Lake Elementeita on your way back, a soda which is an important breeding site for many threatened bird species and famous for its population of flamingos.

Day 3: Loldia – Fly to Masai Mara Game Reserve
Breakfast at Loldia, before heading to the airstrip where you will catch a flight with Governors’ Aviation over to Kenya’s World famous Masai Mara Reserve. It’s a short game drive en route to the camp, and on arrival you can settle into your tent, have lunch and relax.
Embark on a thrilling afternoon game drive at around 3:30pm and return in the dusk for drinks and chatter around the campfire, before your dinner. Fall asleep to the night-time chorus of the Masai Mara!
Arise early each morning to make the most of your spectacular location. Each day will offer you the option of three game drives within the Mara National Reserve, immersing yourself in this rich wildlife destination.

4 Days: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve
Embark on an early morning game drives at dawn, returning to the camp in your own time for a full hunter’s breakfast, served al fresco overlooking the waterhole.
After breakfast there is the opportunity to take another game drive along the banks of the Mara River, or visit some of our responsible tourism community initiatives, or enjoy a unique cultural experience with a visit to a Masai Manyatta (village).
After lunch, an afternoon game drive finishes with drinks around the camp fire and a scrumptious dinner.

Day 5: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve
Depending on what you feel like, we have a range of activities to keep you occupied – game dives, Masai village cultural visits, walking safaris, or you can simply sit back and enjoy the wildlife interaction taking place down by the river or even book yourself in for some of our safari spa treatments!
For a particularly memorable and unforgettable experience, enjoy a surreal journey in a hot air balloon, with Governors’ Balloon Safaris, over the Masai Mara plains, ending with a delicious cooked breakfast, complete with bubbles, wherever you land!
Kindly note that the balloon safari is an optional extra activity and the cost of the balloon safari is not included in the standard itinerary costing.

Day 6: Masai Mara – Fly to Nairobi – Fly to Kigali
Enjoy a final early morning Masai Mara game drive, followed by breakfast in camp before heading to the airstrip in time for your Governors’ Aviation flight back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi.
Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight to Rwanda, Kigali International Airport. Upon Arrival at Kigali International Airport , you will be welcomed by our Rwanda airport representative guide and transferred to your overnight hotel in Kigali.

Day 7: Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast in Kigali you will be met by a driver and private vehicle and driven to Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge. The roads are good and the journey to Ruhengeri will take approximately two hours.
On arrival a late lunch will be served in the main lodge, with its scenic vistas of the Virunga Volcanoes, of the Volcanoes National Park. Afternoon at leisure to settle in and acclimatize and perhaps an afternoon guided bird walk in the surrounds of the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.

Day 8: Explore Volcanoes National Park
An early breakfast, served at the lodge, before departing by road to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters. Here you will be allocated a guide for one of the habituated Mountain Gorilla families and given a safety briefing.
You will then be taken by vehicle to a starting point, to commence your gorilla trek in the forest. The amount of time spent walking is dependent upon which family of Gorillas you are allocated to and where they are to be found on that day.
Once the family is sighted you will spend a maximum of one hour with the Gorilla family. After this phenomenal wildlife experience, return to your vehicle on the edge of the forest, returning to Sabyinyo Silverback lodge for lunch.

Day 9: Explore Volcanoes National Park
Breakfast at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge. Option today to do a second trek to see the Mountain Gorillas or trek to see the Golden Monkeys or one of the other many activities on offer from Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.
We recommend that you also do the village walk which gives a fascinating insight into life in rural Rwanda.
