This region becomes a hive of activity around July, when it offers front row seats to the Great Migration, with hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and other migratory species thundering through the area’s woodlands and across its plains.
While this is undoubtedly the annual wildlife highlight, the Western Corridor offers good game viewing throughout the year, with guided walks, horse riding safaris and balloon trips offered as an alternative to drives. The camp is located on a tributary of the Grumeti River and provides beautiful views of a river bend inhabited by a large collection of noisy hippos.
Twice daily game drives venture out into the wide-open plains, where guests can enjoy the quintessential Serengeti landscapes in fully equipped safari vehicles. With the Grumeti River providing a permanent water source, the area is particularly rich in predators, with large prides of lions and extensive clans of hyena frequently spotted.
The river also attracts large herds of buffalo and elephant, while the open plains are the ideal habitat for cheetah. Riverside drives provide an opportunity to spot massive crocodiles, that the area is renowned for, while birders will be amazed by the number of endemic species that call this area home. The thickets near the camp are also home to colobus monkeys, which cannot be seen anywhere else in the Serengeti.
