2 Days 1 Night Climbing Mount Kenya Naro Moru Route; Naro Moru Route is the most popular of all the routes that lead up to Mount Kenya. It is the steepest and the fastest way up Mt Kenya and ascends the mountain from the west. The route is not particularly scenic but has some of the best accommodations up the mountain.

Most climbers begin at the park gate, although it is possible to drive a vehicle as far as the Met station (3050 meters). Among the challenges in this route include the vertical bog and the extremely steep trail on loose gravel while going up.

Out of the three popular routes up the mountain, the Naro Moru route is the closest to Nairobi (3 Hours drive). Naro Moru Park Gate is situated about 175 kilometres from Nairobi and 15 kilometres from Naro Moru town.

It is therefore the natural choice for hikers if you are coming from Nairobi. Along the way, you are likely to encounter troops of Colobus monkeys commonly found in the forest zone. Other wildlife to watch out for includes Elephants and Buffaloes, commonly found in both the forest and bamboo zones.

Safari Itinerary in Summary

Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Naro Moru (Mount Kenya)

0700 Hours: After breakfast at your hotel in Nairobi we transfer by road to the Naro Moru Park Gate located about 195 Kilometers from Nairobi.

1000 Hours: Our hike starts from the Park Gate at 2400 meters as we follow the motor-able dirt road that takes you through the tropical forest zone followed by the bamboo zone for 9 km to the Met Station at 3050 meters.

Along the way, you are likely to encounter troops of Colobus monkeys commonly found in the forest zone. Other wildlife to watch out for includes Elephants and Buffaloes, commonly found in both the forest and bamboo zones. About 2 hours into the hike, you’ll cross Percival’s Bridge, after which the climb gets steeper and the road starts contouring sharply.

1400 Hours: A further 1.5 hours hike and you’ll reach Met Station where we spend the night in the mountain log cabins. A good day for acclimatization for we will be sleeping at an altitude of 3,050 meters.

After lunch, you will rest a little then take a short hike in the afternoon to gain and lose altitude. Dinner and overnight.
