2 Days 1 Night Climbing Mount Kenya Naro Moru Route

2 Days 1 Night Climbing Mount Kenya Naro Moru Route follows the shortest and the most popular route Mt Kenya hiking trail.  This 2 day affordable Mt Kenya hiking tour begins with a collection from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or at your hotel residence in Nairobi followed by a transfer to the nearby Mt Kenya National Park Naro Moru Park Gate situated about 175 km from Nairobi (15 km from Naro Moru town). The tour could also begin from nearby towns such as Naro Moru, Nyeri, Nanyuki, Meru, and Embu.

Upon arrival at the Mt Kenya National Park Naro Moru Park Gate at 2400 meters above sea level, we complete the necessary paperwork before starting our 2-day Mt Kenya hike. We follow the motorable dirt road that takes you through the tropical forest zone followed by the bamboo zone for 9 km till Met Station at 3050 meters above sea level where we spend the night in the mountain log cabins (Met Station). Hiking through the rainforest we keep a lookout for black and white colobus monkeys, as well as other wild animals. Other wildlife to watch out for includes Elephants and Buffaloes, commonly found in both the forest and bamboo zones.

Day two begins with an early breakfast before continuing our Naro Moru Route hike up Kenya’s highest mountain. We hike up a further 1 hour from Met Station. There’s a radio repeater station powered by a loud diesel generator at this location. From here, you’ll follow a steep narrow path that takes you to the forest edge and the start of the vertical bog after another 1-hour climbing. After hiking past the forest line to the moorland zone covered by tussock glass and Heathers zone you get to the Teleki Valley then on to the crest of the ridge from which vantage point you have a splendid view of the main peaks.

Later we retrace our steps following the same trail back down Mount Kenya through the forest to the Naro Moru River Lodge’s Met Station. We descend further down to Naro Moru Park Gate where our driver transfers you to Nairobi or the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. This brings your memorable 2-Day Mt Kenya hike to a close.

2 Days 1 Night Climbing Mount Kenya Naro Moru Route; Naro Moru Route is the most popular of all the routes that lead up to Mount Kenya. It is the steepest and the fastest way up Mt Kenya and ascends the mountain from the west. The route is not particularly scenic but has some of the best accommodations up the mountain.

Most climbers begin at the park gate, although it is possible to drive a vehicle as far as the Met station (3050 meters). Among the challenges in this route include the vertical bog and the extremely steep trail on loose gravel while going up.

Out of the three popular routes up the mountain, the Naro Moru route is the closest to Nairobi (3 Hours drive). Naro Moru Park Gate is situated about 175 km from Nairobi and 15 km from Naro Moru town.

It is therefore the natural choice for hikers if you are coming from Nairobi. Along the way, you are likely to encounter troops of Colobus monkeys commonly found in the forest zone. Other wildlife to watch out for includes Elephants and Buffaloes, commonly found in both the forest and bamboo zones.
